Tigers Don’t Get Stung

By: Aniyah T. Foley

The Grambling State UniversityTigers claimed their first win of the season on their own enemy’s territory. Grambling traveled to Montgomery, Alabama this past Saturday for a match up against the Alabama State University Hornets. After a slow start in the first quarter, the Tigers captured their first touchdown of the game during the second quarter with 14 minutes still on the clock. The Tiger’s Verlon Hunter received a 19 yard pass from Johnathan Williams, followed by a kick made by Marc Orozco, putting the Tigers up on the board leading the Hornets 7-3. A few possessions later, Grambling’s Ka’Jandre Domino made another touchdown after catching the pass thrown by Williams, carrying the Tigers lead to 14-3. After a strong quarter, the Tigers continued to unleash their wrath upon the Hornets during the second half of the game. Dominating the field, Marc Orozco put the Tigers up by three more points with his 22 yard field goal made within the first three minutes of the third quarter. Chad Williams and Martez Carter both strengthened the Tigers’ clinch on the lead after making two separate touchdowns thrown by Williams. Grambling’s Kicker Marc Orozco finished of the Tiger’s powerful night with an even more powerful 22 yard field goal, which sealed the Tiger’s 34-10 win. This past week’s game was Grambling’s fist SWAC victory of the season and it won’t be their last. Next week’s game will be the Tiger’s 2015 State Fair Classic. It will be against the Prairie View A&M University Panthers. Considering the Tiger’s 7-2 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) record last season, I’m definitely excited to see the turn-out from this matchup. Despite their difficult start in the beginning of this year’s season, GSU’s hard work will definitely be evident this upcoming Saturday, September 26, I advise you tune in so you don’t miss out!
