Under first year head coach Michael Courville, the Teurlings Catholic Rebels have been perfect entering a matchup filled with a lot of big storylines as Courville is taking on the previous two Teurlings Catholic head coaches in Sonny and Dane Charpentier, who are now assistant coaches under Brock Matherne at East Ascension.
Entering this season, the game was circled on the calendar for Rebels fans and the team showed how the game meant to them as the Rebels continued their undefeated season with a 64-29 win over the East Ascension Spartans.
“Our guys want to win no matter whether we’re playing East Ascension or the Saints. They want to play and have fun. Tonight, they definitely did that.”

The Rebels jumped out to a 21-0 lead and never looked back. Offensively, the Rebels were clicking on all cylinders led by their senior quarterback Alex Munoz, who was nearly flawless Friday night accounting for five total touchdowns with three coming through the air and two on the ground. Overall, he threw for 265 yards and three touchdowns while rushing for another 110 yards. Being a son of a coach, Coach Courville can relate to Munoz a lot and having a senior quarterback in command of a balanced Rebels offense has made the coaching transition much easier for Courville.
“He’s phenomenal. He’s a great player and to have that kid as a first-year head coach, I am beyond blessed. Some college out there is going to be really happy to have him.”

Munoz connected with Andrew Viator twice and Quinn Simon once for touchdowns. Spencer Meche ran for two touchdowns. Ian Schwander ran a touchdown and Kaden Chavis had a pick six to cap off all the scoring.
Munoz had a great game Friday night, but he is also quick to point out that the play of the offensive line has been a key to the Rebels’ success.
“It’s great. They play as a unit. We have great chemistry between me and the rest of the guys. It’s a lot of fun and they are playing well.”

The Rebels’ defense also forced multiple interceptions in the game as well from. Playing complementary football has gotten the Rebels firing on all cylinders.
“Our team motto this year is together. We have always been together as a team, but out of my four years here, this is the most together we have been. We all play together as a team 1s, 2s, and 3s. I love this team.”
Teurlings Catholic DE Andrew Fruge
East Ascension made some splash plays throughout the game even a touchdown catch and a two point conversion throw from their versatile 6’6, 300 pound LSU offensive tackle commit Brysten Martinez, who lines up at tight end for the Spartans.
Ranked in the top three of the LSWA polls, the Rebels have another golden opportunity to showcase how good they are with a district championship showdown next week against St. Thomas More.
“That’s the game everybody circles. We’ll be back here tomorrow to put this one to bed and go on to STM prep. I think the kids are excited for the challenge. This is the big one, the one across town everybody looks at. We haven’t had success in quite some time. It’s time to put that in the rearview mirror, get to work, and have a lot of fun.”
