One of the most underrated players in South Louisiana heading into the season is St. Martinville High School (St. Martinville, LA) linebacker Kohen Clues. At 6’1, 200 pounds, Clues has been a highly productive player for the Tigers and one of the team’s most passionate leaders.
“To play linebacker, you have to be extremely smart and have to talk. You are the heart and soul of the defense. You are the leader of the defense.”

Last season, the Tigers’ tackling machine had an impressive outing finishing with 2nd Team All-District honors. With his sideline to sideline speed, he finished with 104 total tackles, 12 TFLs, 18 QB hurries, four fumble recoveries, two field goal blocks, a touchdown, an interception, and eight pass breakups. Although Clues plays linebacker, he tries to emulate his game against one of the NFL’s best safeties the past 20 years.
“I model my game after Kam Chancellor because he was a dog. He was a hard hitting safety. He had a nose for the football and he played fearless and with confidence and I play just like that.”

While also being named Defensive Player of the game twice, it is not only his on the field production that sets him apart, but it is his unwavering confidence in himself that elevates his game.
“My leadership, my competitiveness, my versatility, my attitude, my accountability, my confidence, and I know there is always room for improvement, but I feel like I don’t have any weaknesses. I dominate at everything I do.”

It seems that this confidence has always been there for Clues, but it is actually pretty recent that he realized that football could be a good fit for him.
“Since I was 10, I started playing. I didn’t realize I was going to be good at it until my 10th grade year at the end of the season, but football is all mental. Once you start playing with confidence and step on the field like you are the best to ever touch it, then you will see a big difference in the way you play.”

What Clues is trying to elevate the most during the offseason has been his leadership skills and picking his teammates up when needed.
“Being my brother’s keeper and being humble. I’ve always been working on building my teammates’ confidence up to be like mine or even better.”

Clues’ 4.5/40 speed has helped him dominate not only on the football field, but it has also helped him during track season. Last year, he was a regional finalist in the 100 meter hurdles. That speed is going to help him, especially since playing running back will be added to the list of the highly energetic and confident linebacker this season.
“Playing running back will help me as a player because it shows how I am versatile and I’m super excited to play this because running back has always been my dream position so being honored to be able to get a chance to experience and see what it feels like is a blessing and I feel like putting me at this position gives the players and the coaches more confidence that we will go undefeated this season.”

For his senior year, Clues will have a new head coach at St. Martinville in Garrett Kreamer. Although he may be new to the team, he is certainly not to Clues.
“I love Coach Kreamer. I’ve been knowing him since my 10th grade year. I played 7 on 7 with him so he knows that I can do everything on the field and he’s going to do great things for St. Martinville because his goal is not just making us better football player. He wants us to be the best men we can be because football won’t be there forever. In the future, we will have wives and children and you will have to learn how to make the best decisions as men.”

When it comes to the team, Clues has big things in store for his senior season not only to get himself a ring, but to really make an impact for the future of the program.
“Our goal is to win a ring and to get a couple of more offers to show the younger guys at our school that they can have a chance at an opportunity like this to give them motivation to keep putting in work.”

Speaking of offers, he has received a lot already heading into the year.
“The offers I have received are LCU, Arkansas Monticello, Tuskegee, Louisiana Community College, Centenary College, and Minnesota North Vermillion. It’s been a blessing to get an offer from all of these colleges. I went to the camps and balled out and I have the film to back up my playing style so I’ve just been thanking God and my coaches for putting me in the position to make plays. The recruiting process has been going good for me. I’ve been talking to some other college coaches that are waiting to see my senior film. It’s just a blessing to be able to get a chance to play at the next level.”

With the number of offers the All-District standout has, the recruiting process is still wide open and it will come down to which school will give him the best option in his education and on the field. After his playing days are over, the multi-sport athlete wants to give back in athletics.
“Hopefully, having a job dealing with sports medicine, but if not, then become a head coach because I know some kids don’t have father figures and some have to lean on their coach whenever they need something so if I can teach them to be the best men and football players they can be, I would love that.”

At the end of the season, the St. Martinville two way player will get another chance to showcase his skills in front of college coaches as he was invited at the Gridiron Football Media Day to play in this year’s Gridiron Football All-American Bowl Game.
“It means a lot. It gives me another chance to play against the best talent in Louisiana and also proves to college coaches that I am the best player in the Class of 26. It gives me another chance that doesn’t come often. I really appreciate the bowl game invite.”

Being the best player in the Class of 2026 is something that Kohen Clues is trying to prove to the Gridiron Football All-American Bowl Game, but to college coaches that are looking for a player with the perfect blend of talent and swagger.
“I can do anything you want at any position. If you need me to snap, I will do that. If you need me to block, I will do that. I am very competitive and a leader on and off the field. I should also be a part of your program because I’m hungry. Nobody in this world wants it as bad as I do. I have nothing to lose. I will do anything to be a part of any college program to be able to play the sport I love.”
