Year in and year out, the St. Charles Catholic Comets are in the conversation for state championships. Before last season, the Comets were in the state championship five years running including winning two state championships under the leadership of Hall of Famer Frank Monica and Wayne Stein. After a season full of injuries while also moving up to 4A last season, the Comets want to get back to competing for state championships. In order to get back where St. Charles Catholic wants to be, the Comets will have to rely on their workhorse running back Skyler Edwards.
“My goal is to make it back to the Super Dome.”

Being to the Super Dome for three years in a row, Edwards wants nothing more to end his high school career playing for another state championship.
“It means a lot to be able to represent St. Charles Catholic and I enjoy the atmosphere and just being able to play there on Friday nights is amazing.”

He has put in a lot of time over the offseason in order to give the Comets their best chance.
“I’ve been working to improve my vision this offseason. I feel that my vision has gotten better and I’ve gained better balance from my workouts.”

At 5’10, 185 pounds, Edwards has been a productive running back over his carer with 1,825 total yards including 882 yards and eight touchdowns last season. With 4.48/40 speed and a 525 pound squat max, the Comets’ workhorse running back has a perfect blend of power and top end speed. He also has great vision in between the tackles and can cut on a dime.
“The biggest strengths to my game are my cuts and my ability to break tackles.”

Despite his ability to run the football while modeling his running style after Philadelphia Eagles’ star Saquon Barkley, Edwards is a team player that fully believes that there is much more that a great running back should be able to do.
“The number one quality a running back should have is great blocking.”

Playing multiple sports has also elevated his game even more as well as his overall athleticism.
“I also like to run track and I feel that it helps me up and retain my speed for football.”

He showed off his full ability at our Gridiron Football Elite Camp at John Curtis High School where Edwards was named as one of the Camp’s Top Performers.
“The camp was nice overall. I had a fun experience being able to do the drills with other camp goers.”

That camp top performance also secured Edwards an official invite to play in the 2025 Gridiron Football All-American Bowl Game that will take place at Louisiana Christian University on December 30th after the season.
“It means a whole lot to be invited to play in the All-American Bowl Game and I hope to have fun and show what I can do.”

Edwards hopes that his senior season and the bowl game helps him even more in the recruiting process and getting his name out there for college coaches.
“The recruiting process has gone very well even though I don’t have any schools that have offered me yet.”

As an unselfish three sport athlete that is a proven winner, has the playmaking ability, and a 3.2 GPA to boot, St. Charles Catholic’s Skyler Edwards deserves the opportunity to continue his playing days at the next level.
“I believe college coaches should have me in their program because I stay humble and get it done.”
