St. Amant (LA) 2026 QB Cooper Babin is Gridiron Football Player of Week 1

What a start to the season for St. Amant High School (LA) 2026 QB Cooper Babin, who is showing why he is one of the best 2026 quarterbacks in the state of Louisiana. Not only has Babin put up video game numbers, but the Gators are 2-0 after defeating C.E. Byrd and Cecilia. He feels that it is his leadership that is his biggest quality.

“My biggest strengths as a quarterback I would say is that i don’t get rattled. Your teammates look at you when they need a spark and it’s my job to provide. Also Leadership plays a big role in my quarterback play.”

Babin was nominated for his Week 1 performance when it comes to the Gridiron Football Player of the Week. In the season opener, the Gators were able to seek revenge with a 49-6 win over C.E. Byrd after losing to the Yellow Jackets a season ago.

“Last year we gave it to them. We didn’t play well and we took it personal.”

It was clear that Babin took last season’s 26-10 personal with his performance. Last week, the Gators’ dual threat quarterback completed 26 of 34 passes for 274 yards and two touchdowns while also adding nine carries for 74 yards and two more touchdowns. It was the first touchdown run that really got him settled in that game.

“My first rushing touchdown stood out to me. Just gave me that confidence back running the football.”

Although it was a dynamic performance, Babin thought he actually could play better.

“I would grade my week one performance a B just because there’s always room for improvement.”

The St. Amant fans were certainly high on his performance. After being named a finalist for the Gridiron Football Player of the Week, Babin would win the award, which is a specially made letterman jacket patch that says “Gridiron Football Player of the Week.” Babin won the fan vote by over five thousand votes with a total of 18,254 tallies. Babin cannot appreciate the St. Amant school community for all of the support and voting for him to win.

“I want to thank the community for all of the votes. I realize the amount of support I have and I am so grateful for everyone who supports me and this award!”

The rule is Gridiron Football that after winning the player of the week award, the player can’t win it again, but ironically, Babin had an even better performance in Week 2 against the defending Division II Non-Select state champion Cecilia Bulldogs by a final score of 60-56.

In that game, Babin was unstoppable with his arm and his legs. After accounting for four touchdowns in Week 1, he doubled that up in Week 2 with eight total touchdowns. All around, he completed 16 of 23 passes for 401 yards and four touchdowns while carrying the ball 14 times for 149 yards and another four touchdowns. It was one of those games that everything came together.

“That’s just one of those game you always dream about. I was hot from the start and i’ve had a great start to the season but I want to credit my teammates. It takes more than one person to be successful on the field and they have been playing some good ball.”

Babin’s confidence has soared and a lot of that has to deal with his close relationship with his offensive coordinator, which just so happens to be his dad Seth Babin.

“Me and my dad have a great relationship both on and off the field. Our chemistry is amazing and I love playing for him. He’s dad when it’s time to be dad and coach when it’s time to be coach.”

Through two games, the Gators have scored a combined 109 points with Babin completing 42 of 57 passes for 675 yards and six touchdowns while rushing for 223 more yards and six more touchdowns. He is along on his way of accomplishing the goals that he wants to accomplish the rest of the season.

“Personal goals – I want to be remembered as the greatest to do it at St. Amant. I want to pass for over 2000 and rush for over 1000 and i want to win a state championship.”

With offers already from Millsaps, Louisiana Christian, and Kentucky State, Babin just wants to continue to build his resume in the recruiting process.

“The recruiting process has been good. There’s lots of schools out there and I want to play for the one who wants me!”

When it comes to the recruiting process, just look at the leadership, athletic ability, and the numbers. Of course, they never lie when it comes to what kind of player Cooper Babin is.

“I’m a leader and I can PLAY! I will give any college football team out there my absolute best.”
