St. Amant DE Dylan Carpenter Commits To The Ragin’ Cajuns

One of the best pass rushers in the state of Louisiana committed to the UL Ragin’ Cajuns yesterday with St. Amant High School senior defensive end Dylan Carpenter announcing his decision on social media. Over his career, the 6’4, 250 pound defensive lineman has become a nightmare for opposing quarterbacks in Ascension Parish earning District Defensive MVP and Ascension Parish Defensive MVP honors in an incredible junior season.

Ever since his sophomore season, Carpenter has drawn the attention of Division I schools getting offers from programs like Tulane, Louisiana Tech, Arkansas State, Utah State, Southeastern, Charlotte, Troy, Rice, and Northwestern State. However, it was the Ragin’ Cajuns that emerged from the pack and won over the All-State performer.

“UL has been great to me throughout my whole recruitment with them and I got a chance to build a relationship with the whole staff. On top of that, they are close to home and my whole family can make it to every game.”

Every time Carpenter has gone over to Lafayette and taken a visit, it immediately has felt like a second home to him.

“Coach Des and Coach Thomas seemed to have big plans for me once I get on campus and they are both very understanding people that I feel I can make family. The rest of the staff are just great people to hang with and I really feel at home every time I’m on campus.”

Ironically, it is actually an offensive skill player in this year’s recruiting class for the Ragin’ Cajuns that Carpenter has really gotten along with and has shared the closest bond so far.

“I’ve got the chance to speak to some of the players, but haven’t really got the chance to get to know them well yet. On the other hand, I got to meet Elijah Davis. He’s a running back from Riverside that recently committed to play over there and I got to know him very well.”

Making the decision to commit right before the season has now allowed him to enjoy his senior year as he and the St. Amant Gators get ready to start the 2022 season.

“It was very important to make this decision before I start my senior season because I want the go in this year and just focus on playing ball and put the recruiting to the side.”

That is a scary sight for opposing offensive linemen on the Gators’ schedule this season as their defensive star has one intention only and that is making the players blocking him wish they have not gone up against him.

“My goals for this year is to win a state championship, receive first team All-State, and embarrass every left tackle I go up against.”

To improve his game even more, Carpenter is working on his hands and not relying just upon his strength to get to the quarterback. If he can add that part of his game to his speed, strength, and quickness off the ball, he could become the next great pass rusher to put on the vermilion and white.

Also, he has the intentions to make an impact not only on the field, but in the classroom as well once he arrives on campus next year.

“The goals that I will like to accomplish once I get there are to start my freshman year, maintain over a 3.5 GPA, and obviously win a championship.”

As far as a major is concerned, Carpenter is planning on being a chiropractor or a physical therapist. While off the field, he is helping people recover and get better. His intentions on the field are the opposite as a defensive player.

“I really hate losing and I love hitting people. I love winning and I’ll do anything in my power to get that done.”

Although the Ragin’ Cajuns have themselves a new head coach in Michael Desormeaux, the goal continues to remain the same, which is be at the top of the Sun Belt Conference. With players like Dylan Carpenter that have that winning mindset, the Ragin’ Cajuns are off to a great start in continuing that trend for the future.
