Huntsville, LA: The Southern Jaguars traveled to Huntsville, AL to take on Alabama State in the Jaguar’s second conference game of the season. The jaguars were explosive on offence and lit up Alabama State to win the game with a score of 59-31.
Jaquan Davis of Alabama State returned the opening kickoff 93 yards to give his team an early 7-0 lead. After that it was all Southern who came out and produced a very effective game on both offence and defense. Austin Howard was very effective tonight and did a lot of work through the air as he threw for 280 yards and counting for 5 touchdowns.
Lenard Tillery was also a part of this high-performing game as he rushed for 179 yards, scoring twice on runs and once from a catch. Howard had several receivers this night, one of those was Willie Quinn, who caught for 112 yards and a touchdown. Dillon Beard brought in 2 touchdowns from passes and Brown had a touchdown from a 22 yard catch. The Jaguars 538 total yards from the night put the game out of reach for Alabama State.
The opposing team also had 4 turnovers that worked in favor for Southern. The Jaguars now sit 2-2 on the season and 2-0 in conference play. Southern is off from play for the next two weeks, then returns to the field on October 15th to face Jackson State. Keep watching Southern this season as SWAC play continues.
