Southeastern’s Homecoming Week is Here!

Its homecoming week in Hammond, La and the Lions return home to face off against Southland foe, Incarnate Word this Saturday. Homecoming week kicked off this past Sunday with a kickball tournament and will continue with events all week. Other events include Gumbo Ya Ya and the Homecoming bonfire to the FeLions’ annual luncheon and the Alumni Awards Evening’s reveal of the 2017 Alumnus of the Year.

The homecoming parade starts at noon on Saturday and will go through Friendship Circle. The first 200 students to enter the stadium Saturday will receive a free T-shirt and the homecoming King and Queen will be crowned at halftime.

Lions’ football is coming off back-to-back wins against Lamar and Northwestern State, where they posted back-to-back 40-point games. Coming into homecoming as the Southland Conference Rushing leaders, the Lions look to keep the momentum going against Incarnate Word. Incarnate Word is struggling and still looking to get its first win of the season.

Southeastern had a balanced attack on Offense for the first time all season led by sophomore quarterback Lorenzo Nunez (8-11, 254 yards and 2 TDs) before freshman Byron Walker played the whole second half. It will be interesting to see who starts under center this week for the Lions but it would seem to be Nunez’ job to lose. Coach Roberts was pleased with his teams effort.

“We did an excellent job of coming out of the gates fast,” Southeastern head coach Ron Roberts said. “We were clicking in all phases from the start and I’m obviously very pleased with the effort tonight.”

As Homecoming week continues, the school will continue to have events for students and alumni alike. It seems like the whole city of Hammond is excited for this year’s homecoming and will be looking to turn Strawberry Stadium into a very loud venue Saturday night!

The Lions-Cardinals game will be streamed live by the Southeastern Channel on the Southland Digital Network at www.Southland.org/live. The game can also be heard on the Southeastern Sports Radio Network (KSLU 90.9 FM, Kajun 107.1 FM, The Highway 104.7 FM, WFPR 1400 AM), online at www.LionSports.net/listenlive and via the Tune-In Radio app.
