Big thank you to Neville High and the amazing coaching staff for allowing us to host the GridIron Football camp this past weekend!
Neville High School was built in 1931 in Monroe, Louisiana. It was named in honor of Ernest Long Neville, former teacher, principal, and superintendent, who was known for pushing high academic standards in the Monroe City School system. Over the decades, the historic building was eventually added to the National Register of Historic Places, and after a massive renovation in 2017, Architectural Digest named it the “Most Beautiful Public High School in Louisiana”! Not only has their campus made headlines, but Neville’s football program has rapidly evolved into a statewide powerhouse! With the legendary coaching of LHSAA Hall of Famer Charlie Brown, the program achieved 12 state championships. Speaking of fame, Coach Brown was not the only one to achieve such status. Some other famous alumni are formzer NFl quarter back, Bubby Brister, current NFL reciever, KaVontae Turpin, NFL wide receiver draft, Will Campbell, PGA Tour winner, Brian Bateman, and thats only to name a few!
Q & A ft. Head Coach Collins
When did you start coaching football?
I started coaching football in 1983.
What has been the biggest lesson you’ve learned while coaching?
Every young athlete is different, so just learning how to challenge, encourage, and teach each young man.
What do you hope to achieve next season?
Every year is a different year. My main goal every year is to find the right mix of chemistry, team-wise, and to have them adapt to and adjust to every team we compete with. I mainly want to try to fill in holes and aim for the best results with every group of men, and for them to give their best every practice and game.
Is there any room for improvement for you or your team?
Always. At the end of every season, I ask my graduating senior athletes and feelow coaches, how the team and I can be better and what to work on.
Do you have any future goals for the school’s football program?
My focus is to put great men in the community (morally, physically, and spiritually), to create great students and citizens.
Are there any teams you look forward to playing against next season?
Ruston is always a special game, but we always have a great season lineup. I think every game will be great because we will give our all.
Keep An Eye Out!
