School Spotlight: Jasper High School (Jasper, Texas)

Jasper High School-located in Jasper, Texas-plays in the 4A classification of Texas High School football. They are ranked as the #248 team in the state of Texas, and the #15 team in all of 4A classification. The Bulldogs, whose colors are crimson and white, had a great year going 7-4 and finishing 2nd in their district. They qualified for the playoffs before losing to a good Sealy team. This week, I talked to Coach Kendrick Crumedy about many things that revolve around the Jasper program.

Talking to Coach Crumedy about the history of Jasper football, they are known to be a really good football program. They have send many guys to play college football, and even have sent players like Red Bryant and Sean Weatherspoon into the league. They have been a state finalist before, and been to the state quarterfinals six different times. Whatever district they are in, these Bulldogs have always been a contender usually finishing in first or second. Their main strength has been defense throughout history.

The style of the Jasper Bulldogs has helped shape them into a tough team to compete against. On offense, they run the power spread usually in the 11 personnel. Most of their runs come from the shotgun such as QB power and draws, so anyone can be running the rock for the Bulldogs. Having 147.3 rushing yards per game opens up the pass game for this team, as they have 168.6 passing yards per game. On defense, they run a 3-4 defense where they like to have a lot of movement up through stunts and blitzes. This helps them have an physical defense that can wear out opponents.

Talking to Coach Crumedy, I asked him about the pillars of this program. The pillars they have for this program is toughness, character, accountability, selfishness, and faith. As they treat each other like family, that will help them figure out with their future. Playing 13 sophomores and a freshman last season has helped them gain a lot of experience with them returning all 11 on defense and 8 on offense. Returning all these players has gotten Coach Crumedy excited for the future as they will always be a contender in whatever district and region they are in. All it matters for the Bulldogs is to stay healthy and stay physical which is how it is for this team.

Before letting Coach Crumedy go, I asked him about several athletes on his team who are making an impact for the Bulldogs.

Tyanthony Smith is a 3 star linebacker who has offers from schools such as Alabama, Auburn, Baylor, LSU, Missouri and Oklahoma

Britain Simmons is a wide receiver who has offers from schools such as Texas Tech and Vanderbilt

Kiotti Armstrong is a tight end who has offers from Baylor, Nebraska, Oklahoma State and TCU

Jakharyn Parks is a cornerback who averaged 6 tackles per game

Andre’von Thomas is a running back for them who also plays free safety for them. He is a dynamic

two-way player for the Bulldogs

Zaylon Beatty is a defensive tackle who coach Crumedy says has a nasty streak and is a road grader for the Bulldogs
