Rising Star: WR/DB Dustin Davis, Northwestern Middle School (Zachary, Louisiana)

One young player is creating waves in the junior high football world and attracting the attention of many. Meet Dustin Davis, a gifted athlete who is becoming more and more noticeable on the field. Dustin Davis is a 5’2″ defensive back and wide receiver weighing 106 pounds. He attends Northwestern Middle School in Zachary, Louisiana. On the football field, Dustin has proven to be highly talented.  He has demonstrated that, when called upon, he can play both offense and defense. 

1. How did you get started in football, and what inspired you to play?

I started playing little league at age 7 and I was inspired to play because I was a huge Odell Beckham fan.

2. Can you share a memorable moment or game that stands out in your junior high football career so far?

In the championship game that we won, I picked off the QB in the 4th quarter to seal the game.

3. What positions do you enjoy playing the most, and why?

I enjoy playing in the slot because I have very quick feet and great hands. I have the ability to separate myself from my defenders.

4. How do you balance schoolwork and football during the season?

I finish all my homework during study hall so the remainder of my day is open for sports.

5. What aspects of your game do you feel you have improved upon the most since you started playing?

My route running has improved with the help of my offensive trainers Coach Craig Brod. He believes in me.

6. What are your individual goals for the upcoming football season, and how do they align with the team’s?

My goal is to increase my speed and to be a force on whatever position I am called upon to play. This aligns with my team because we want to win.

7. Are there any professional football players you look up to, and if so, why?

My favorite is my cousin Darius Davis who plays with the San Diego Chargers, Jalen Ramsey, and Odell Beckham Jr.

8. How do you stay motivated during practices and training sessions, especially when facing tough drills or exercises?

I stay motivated through the words of my trainers even when they are not there.

9. What advice would you give to other young players?

Always give thanks to God, obey your parents, and treat people with kindness. Invest in yourself and surround yourself with good trainers.

10. Aside from football, what is an interesting fact about you?

I am very interested in engineering programs and I love to read.

11. Which college would you most like to play for?

I am a huge Georgia Bulldogs fan but whomever gives me an opportunity I will be grateful.

12. What did it mean to be a part of the Gridiron Bowl football game?

Gridiron Bowl game was huge to me. I met a lot of players and we are friends now.

13. What are your biggest strengths on the field?

My biggest strengths are my speed, my route running, and my ability to make plays on defense.

14. What is the biggest challenge you face on the field?

A lot of the receivers are taller than me when I am playing CB, so when they go at me I’m with them step for step. I have to work extra hard on defense.

15. How has playing football impacted other areas of your life?

Football has taught me to be more patient and disciplined. I am motivated to keep good grades and be respectful to everyone.
