Rain Not Slowing Down Wildcats Camp

For the second time in a matter of a couple days the Louisiana College football fall camp practice was disrupted due to weather.  With lightning within range of the practice field Coach Dennis Dunn and the athletic training staff halted practice for safety reasons.

 

Dunn said, “The weather has been strange in that just about every practice that we’ve thus far has been in one way or another affected by the weather. Fortunately, we’ve not missed a practice, but we have had to break some up to be able to get the whole practice in.  The good side of it is, the weather has been extremely cool for this time of year and we’ve not had to deal with the heat.”

After a 30 minute break in the action the team retook the field to finish the lone practice of the day, capping the session off with a highlight reel special teams play, after Aurren Cooksey pounded his way into the endzone, that included a lateral and a 2-point conversion pass from Zac Barrient to Orel Ledet, Jr. The result sent the far sideline rushing onto the field in celebration led by quarterback Easton Melancon.

“I thought we responded to the weather really well,” Dunn said, “ we came back after a 30 minute delay and kids came out and had a lot of fun, and competed well against one another in our overtime period.”

 

Despite the weather challenges to this camp Coach Dunn reiterated that the 1’s on both sides of the ball we continuing to sharpen their skills and that the biggest prospect now is finding depth behind the starters.

 

“We got in everything we wanted to the other day with the shortened practice, so we feel good about where we are at this point and moving into the last few days of camp.”

Camp will continue with another “2-a-day” session on Thursday with practices at 5:10 am and again at 3:10 pm.  Early risers can catch the morning session and everyone else can join in at 3pm with the afternoon session at Wildcat Field on Louisiana College’s campus.
