RAGIN’ CAJUNS FOOTBALL: Cajun Blanked By Appalachian State, 24-0

LAFAYETTE – Jalin Moore rushed for 106 yards on 14 carries with a pair of touchdowns and Appalachian State scored on its first four possessions of the game in defeating the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns, 24-0, in a Sun Belt Conference game on Wednesday at Cajun Field.

Todd Lamb completed 15 of 26 passes for 201 yards and a score as Appalachian State (4-2, 2-0 SBC) handed Louisiana (2-4, 1-2 SBC) its first shutout at home since a 27-0 loss to North Texas on Oct. 26, 2002.

App State opened the game with a 56-yard pass from Lamb to Shaedon Meadors to the UL 2 before Moore scored on the following play. After taking over at its own 4 after a punt by Steven Coutts, the Mountaineers drove 92 yards in 11 plays with Michael Rubino booting a 21-yard field goal for a 10-0 lead with 5:13 remaining in the first quarter.

Moore added a 41-yard TD run in the second quarter for a 17-0 lead before Lamb connected with Collin Reed for an 8-yard scoring pass giving Appalachian State a 24-0 lead with 5:43 remaining in the first half.

Elijah McGuire gained 43 yards rushing for Louisiana and moved past Tyrell Fenroy (5,231 yards, 2005-08) as the school’s all-time leader in all-purpose yards. The senior running back moved past Fenroy on a 13-yard gain in the third quarter and increased his career total to 5,236.

Al Riles had six receptions to lead the Ragin’ Cajuns with Michael Jacquet grabbing a season-high five passes. Denarious Howard led Louisiana with six tackles and an interception with Reggie Miles posting five tackles in his first career start.

Louisiana will return to action on Oct. 22 when it travels to face Texas State in San Marcos, Texas.
