QB Cortland Brownfield: Baton Rouge, LA

There have been many great dual-threat quarterbacks that have come out of the state of Louisiana, but this is definitely one that people are going to want to keep their eyes on for years to come. As our latest Diamond in the Rough featured athlete, Cortland Brownfield is a 6’0, 175 pound quarterback that currently attends Woodlawn High School in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. For his first two years of high school, Brownfield attended University High, and is looking to have a fresh start on the field and in the classroom with the Panthers, as he has maintained a 3.6 GPA. Now, he will get the opportunity to be coached by former LSU and Tennessee Titans player, Marcus Randall. This will definitely help mold Brownfield’s game for the better in the coming seasons. For the class of 2025, he is currently ranked the number one dual-threat quarterback in Louisiana, according to QBHitlist.com. He has two offers at the moment, from Grambling State and Lane College, but has been at college camps all summer to show his skills off to colleges for them to notice him even more.

What age were you when you started playing football and why did you continue to do so over the years?

” I started playing football at the age of around five, and I’ve continued to play mainly because of the joy and excitement I get each and every time I step onto the field.”

Do you play any other sports or is or only football for you?

“Growing up I played basketball, baseball, and even soccer but lately I’ve mainly been focusing on just football.”

What are you biggest strengths as a quarterback?

“I feel my biggest strengths as a quarterback are my decision making and play making ability.”

What would you describe as a good teammate?

“I would describe a good teammate as someone who is going to give it their all every play in order for the team to be successful.”

What are some things you can do to improve as a QB?

“I would like to continue keep getting bigger, faster, and stronger for the upcoming season.”

How has the recruiting process been throughout high school for upcoming potential college? Any offers?

“The recruiting process so far has been pretty good, with the recent college visits adding on to how I need to just keep building relationships. I currently hold offers from Grambling State University and also Lane College.”

Goals for season/ What do you want to get out of this season?

“The main goal for this season is to bring a state championship to Woodlawn.”

Why would a college want you as their quarterback/ what sets you apart from the others?

“A college would want me because I’m a very competitive player that can manage the game and also extend plays outside of the pocket if need be.”

How has it been this summer so far at Woodlawn? Is it a good fit for you?

“So far I feel that Woodlawn has been a great fit, with welcoming people that mainly have the same goals as me in winning.”

Is there a quarterback who you embody your game after or watch to get some inspiration?

” I really like to look at Bryce Young’s game just because of how calm he is under pressure, as well as making decisions when the original play may break down.”

How would your teammates describe you?

“My teammates would describe me as a very hard working person.”

Biggest role model in your life?

“My parents would be my biggest role models because of the hard work and sacrifice they display for me and my siblings. This really gives me even more motivation to go out and give it my all.”
