NFL Prospect: Chad Williams

Chad Williams is a wide receiver for the Grambling State Tigers. He has been with the tigers for his entire college career and has had an impressive time there over the years. He is a native of Baton Rouge and spent his high school time at Madison Prep in Baton Rouge. He acted as the team’s receiver for the majority of his college career and has seen much improvement over the years. For his senior season he caught 90 balls for 1,337 yards and 11 touchdowns. This is an improvement from his previous years; as a sophomore he caught 45 balls for 542 yards and 5 touchdowns, and then in his junior year he caught 64 balls for 1,012 yards and 10 touchdowns. He has been a part of some great seasons for Grambling, especially this past season where the tigers went all the way and won the HBCU National Championship. Now that his time at Grambling has come to a close, he has his eyes set on the NFL draft.

Williams has continued to impress people who have watched him over the years, from coaches to fans and also scouts. He earned a spot in the Senior Bowl that occurred a few months ago and further impressed scouts that were in attendance. Williams is trying to be one of the players who have made it to the NFL from a HBCU institution, if he does so he would join a very prestigious club of stars who have played well in the NFL. Williams is also trying to be the first player from Grambling State to be drafted since 2006. This was over a decade ago, but it is believed that Williams has a shot as making his dream a reality.

Chad Williams has been helping himself lately to be put in a position to be on an NFL team, such as having a great performance at the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl in California, to a late entrance in the Senior Bowl. Williams was also listed by a draft analyst as one of the “winners” of the Senior Bowl. Other draft analysts have said after that game that he was one of the better receivers on the field and that he had natural hands. Williams coach Broderick Fobbs said about him, “Chad is a young man that is an exceptional football player. He’s very, very dominant on our level and he dominated everybody we played even on the FBS level. I wasn’t surprised by any of the things he’s been able to accomplish and what he’s been able to do this week in the Senior Bowl. He’s an exceptional talent. He’s an NFL receiver.”

He has a few NFL teams that has been looking at him for potential positions, one of those has been the New Orleans Saints. He also just recently had an interview with the Green Bay Packers and expressed his passion for the game and mentioned how much he loves football and his desire to grow. Williams also has his pro day coming up in just a few days and scouts will be able to get a better picture of how Williams can perform. Williams hopes to do well on the pro day, it has been proven over the recent months that he has the talent and athleticism to have played on the FBS level and hopefully the NFL. Williams is fully aware that he is from a smaller school that tends to get overlooked when it comes to potential draft picks, but what he has done during the course of his time at Grambling State and the short time after his senior season ended, he definitely should be looked at further by scouts, owners, and analysts.

The pro day Williams will be participating in will be on the Grambling State pro day on March 21st so be sure to look out for his stats and see how well he does. Williams is projected to be a late pick in the draft, but many people know that late draft picks can become very effective players on an NFL team. Chad Williams has what it takes to play on the professional level; be on the look out to see how it plays out for him in the coming weeks.
