The McNeese State Cowboys had a magnificent game yesterday against 19th ranked Nebraska on the road. It was a battle till the very end nut Nebraska pulled out a narrow victory winning the game 31 to 24. Although the Cowboys did not get the win they made a name for themselves by playing some excellent football. One of the biggest highlights of the game for the Cowboys was an interception by senior DB Aaron Sam, which was returned 98-yards for a touchdown and tied the game up at 14 to 14. People all over the country were glued to this game because of the smack down that McNeese was putting on this ranked Nebraska team. McNeese State had both junior QB Tyler Bolfing and junior QB Daniel Sams taking snaps in this game. Bolfing went 9 of 17 with 101 yards but had no TDs and 1 interception. Sams went 3 of 9 with 59 yards and no passing TDs. However, Sams did have a very good game rushing the ball with 10 carries for 74 yards. He almost had a 26 yard rushing TD but it was marked back at the half yard-line. Then Bolfing returned to the game and got it into the end zone.
McNeese’s defense was putting on a good game really limiting the Nebraska offense. If the Cowboys would have pulled out the win yesterday they would have been the first Southland team to beat a Big 10 team since 1964. Although they did not end that streak they gave Cowboy fans a reason to smile and be excited for the rest of this season.
