Madison Prep dominates late in win over Southern Lab

Check out these highlights

The Madison Prep Chargers mounted an impressive comeback in order to beat the Southern Lab Kittens 36-26 in an upset on the road. The Chargers now move to 3-3 and 2-0 in their district. Meanwhile, the Kittens fall to 3-2 on their season.

This was a match-up between two teams with playoff aspirations and the momentum swayed heavy for both teams throughout. The Kittens were able to take the early lead in 1st, with a rushing TD from QB Jerry Bottley, but the Chargers were able to march back down the field and tie the game with a score from their QB, Tylan Johnson.

After a quick change of possession, the Chargers basically scored back-to-back TDs as Alfred McKnight scored after this to put them up 12-6. Alfred McKnight was a key player to Madison Prep’s comeback as he had 3 TDs with the last two coming late in the 4th. That being said, the Kittens took over after they went down 12-6 and scored 20 unanswered points after this.

Some of Madison Prep’s key players to this victory were Alfred McKnight and Tylan Johnson. All five of the teams touchdowns came from their rushing attack. That said, after the Chargers went down 26-12, they didn’t waiver. They continued to fight back and found a way to score 24 straight and unanswered points all in the 4th.

Some of Southern Lab’s key players were star player Jerry Bottley, Armriyan Asberry, and Trevor Norman. They all played key roles in dominating in the early going. This was a game that had many penalties, as tensions were high in this rivalry game. Regardless, the game lived up to the hype and these two teams displayed their competitiveness against one another.

It’s important that the Chargers were able to win this game, as they remain undefeated in district games and look to carry on their momentum into next week. Coach Williams was able to instill a winning culture and they look to build from tonight’s big win.

After the game, I was able to talk to star RB Alfred McKnight, who I also covered in our “Diamond in the Rough” series that will be linked below.

Well first and foremost, how do you think you played tonight?

“I think I played a little bad in the first half, but overall, I left a lot on the table. As an athlete you could never play perfect.”

How were y’all able to have a dominant 4th quarter and come back and win?

“We had a dominant 4th quarter because as a team, we came together and started believing in each other.”

What can we expect to see next week against Port Allen?

“Next week, I can’t tell you what’s going to happen, but just know it’s going to be a show.”

The Chargers are now 3-3 as they look to play Port Allen in a home game next Friday where they try to keep their momentum from the previous few weeks. Meanwhile, Southern Lab is now 3-2 and they look to bounce back from back-to-back losses as they play Kaplan on the road.
