LSU’s SEC Media Day Representatives Are Announced

Next week, the start of SEC Media Days begin on July 17th and today, the three LSU players that will be joining head coach Brian Kelly have been announced. Those three players are QB Jayden Daniels, RB Josh Williams, and DL Mekhi Wingo.

After winning the starting job last season, Jayden Daniels is entering his second year as the Tigers’ starting quarterback. The Tigers’ dual threat quarterback is one of the SEC and nation’s top returning quarterbacks after leading the team to the SEC West Division Title. Last season, Daniels threw for 2,913 yards and 17 touchdowns to only three interceptions while also rushing for a team leading 885 yards and 11 more touchdowns on the ground. The two time SEC Offensive Player of the Week is a dark horse this upcoming season for the Heisman Trophy as he has done everything needed physically by gaining 20 pounds during the offseason and mentally as a SEC Media Days representative to take the next step to his game in year two.

Running back Josh Williams is one of the best stories on this LSU team and is a deserving option to represent the Tigers on SEC Media Days. Entering his fifth year with the Tigers, the former walk-on has a breakout season last year leading all Tigers’ running backs with 532 yards and six touchdowns. The 5’9, 205 pound dependable running back will also begin his final season as a college graduate.

The only LSU player that will be representing the Tigers on the defensive side of the football is defensive lineman Mekhi Wingo. As a leader on the Tigers’ defensive line, the third team All-American and 2nd Team All-SEC selection enters his second season at LSU after coming in as a transfer from Missouri. Last season, Wingo started 13 games in which he had 47 tackles, six tackles for loss, three sacks, and five quarterback hurries. He and Maason Smith make up one of the best interior defensive linemen tandems in the country heading into 2023.
