BATON ROUGE – LSU long snapper Blake Ferguson has been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team, the College Sports Information Directors of America announced on Thursday.
The 2019 Academic All-District Football Team, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All-America program separately recognizes football honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
First-team Academic All-District honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot. First- and second-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced in early December.
Ferguson earned a spot on the NCAA Division I District 6 team, which covers football programs in the states of Louisiana, Arkansas, Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wisconsin and Wyoming.
Ferguson, a senior graduate student from Smyrna, Ga., has excelled on the football field, in the classroom and in the community during his LSU career. Ferguson is a four-year starter for the Tigers.
Last year, Ferguson became the first long snapper in LSU history to be named a permanent team captain. He was also named first team All-America at his position by Phil Steele Magazine, the only organization to recognize a long snapper as part of its All-America team.
In the classroom, Ferguson has been named to the Southeastern Conference Academic Honor Roll four times, is in his second term of serving as the chair of the SEC’s Football Leadership Council and has twice been nominated for the AFCA Good Works Teams for his work in the community.
Ferguson graduated with an undergraduate degree in marketing with a 3.5 grade point average in three years. He currently has a 3.79 grade point average in graduate school and he’s on pace to earn a Master’s in Business Administration from LSU in December.
