Thursday, LSU came back to the practice field, and we got an extended look at 11v11. With Sam Leavitt unavailable for the rest of spring, Elon transfer Landen Clark got the first team reps with the offense.
The first team offense went against the first team defense for eight plays. The first play started with Malik Blockton getting in the backfield and tackling Caden Durham for a loss.
Clark’s best throw of the series was a back shoulder throw to Illinois transfer Malik Elzy, who has been having a great week of practice getting some first team reps at wide receiver. The offense is also starting to incorporate more unique ways in trying to get Trey’Dez Green the football as on the first play of the series, he lined up in the backfield before shifting out wide.
Clark showed his running ability multiple times once on a quarterback draw and the other on a quarterback zone read. He connected with Ole Miss transfer Winnie Watkins for a first down before the drive would eventually end on a defensive play with Tamarcus Cooley intercepting a pass from Clark that was intended for Jackson Harris.
The rest of the practice, we got to see more of the same from Tuesday with Blake Baker being hands on with the defensive backs and all the position coaches working time with their players.
Saturday will be the most thorough practice report yet of the spring as even though we will not have any video highlights, we will have access to an entire practice. For more, visit our website at www.gridironfootballusa.com.
