LSU Legends Have Historic Offensive Display On Monday Night Football

Monday Night Football marks the first time that two former Heisman Trophy winning quarterbacks from the same school were playing each other head to head and it featured two signal callers from LSU in Joe Burrow and Jayden Daniels. The highly anticipated Primetime showdown between the Cincinnati Bengals and the Washington Commanders certainly did not disappoint as it became a memorable performance for a variety of different reasons.

Unsurprisingly, the game was an offensive shootout between the two greatest quarterbacks in LSU football history with the Commanders winning by a final score of 38-33 over the Bengals.

The biggest storyline was the efficient performance by last year’s Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels, who was nearly flawless in the win. Daniels set a NFL rookie record of a 91.3 completion percentage in one game by completing 21 of 23 passes for 254 yards and two touchdowns while also adding in a rushing touchdown on the ground too.

The Commanders’ rookie quarterback has been playing at an unbelievable level as he has also not turned the ball over the last two games, the team has not turned the ball over and has not punted.

His first two touchdown passes of his NFL career were also memorable as he completed his first to a backup offensive lineman Trent Scott and finally, threw a beautiful touchdown dime to Terry McLaurin to seal the game with two minutes left in the game.

Daniels stole the show, but Joe Burrow was no slouch either in the loss as he completed 29 of 38 passes for 324 yards and three touchdowns. He also connected with another fellow LSU legend receiver in Ja’Marr Chase for six grabs for 118 yards and two touchdowns.

The game made even more NFL history as this was also the first game since 1940 that both teams had no turnovers and no punts showing how dynamic and efficient both these former LSU quarterbacks are.

For 60 years, LSU was waiting for another Heisman Trophy winner to join Billy Cannon and they got two of them in a matter of five years. With NFL budding stars in Jayden Daniels and Joe Burrow, the LSU brand continues to grow more and more.

“It does give you the ability to say, “Look, if you want to be that next guy, that next potential Heisman Trophy winner, we can develop them here at LSU. Nothing speaks to it better than squaring off on Monday Night Football.”

“It’s just a great opportunity for us to show two great young men in terms of what they’ve been able to do on and off the field.”
