Louisiana Tech Wins Third Straight

Louisiana Tech traveled to Southern Miss this weekend to beat the Golden Eagles 31-20 and moved to 5-3. The Bulldogs are now 4-0 in Conference USA and sitting alone in first place of the C-USA western division. The Bulldogs will return to Ruston this weekend to take on Western Kentucky. Tech will become bowl eligible if the Bulldogs pull out the win this Saturday against the Hilltoppers of Western Kentucky. Go Dawgs!
Offense
The Tech offense moved the ball very well with mostly dominating through the air with 423 yards on 27 completions. The rushing game on the other hand was lacking by only going for 30 yards and a team on 26 carries. After only scoring 3 point in the first half the offense finally got everything going in the third quarter after Kenneth Dixon caught two passes from Cody Sokol. Another passing touchdown from Sokol and one more TD for Dixon would cap off the scoring night for the Bulldogs. Cody Sokol played a great game going 27/46 for 423 yards and 3 touchdowns while throwing zero interceptions. This type of quarterback play is what the Bulldogs need to be a successful football team. Kenneth Dixon led Louisiana tech in the rushing department by going for 41 yards on 19 carries and accounting for one rushing touchdown. Kenneth Dixons biggest impact on the football game was in the receiving game by catching 6 balls for 124 yards and 2 touchdowns. Sokol spread the ball around as 4 receivers had 4 or more catches. This type of ball movement can keep defenses honest and allow you to open up your playbook and let your playmakers make some plays. If the offense continues to roll Western Kentucky might be in for some trouble.
Defense
The Louisiana Tech defense played a solid game. Only allowing 20 points on the road is nothing to be ashamed of, especially when you have a high powered offense like the Bulldogs do. Tech played very well in the middle of the game only allowing 3 points in the second and third quarters. The craziest stat of the game was definitely the -31 rushing yards allowed by the Bulldogs defense. Most of these losses of yardages coming in sacks, but nonetheless still very impressive by the Bulldogs. The Bulldogs defense also went ball hawking as Tech intercepted two passes thrown by Southern Miss. Hopefully this defense can continue to play solid to finish out the year and lead the Bulldogs to a C-USA title game birth.
