La Tech Loses in a Shootout

By: Andy Bryson

On Thursday night the Dawgs met the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers in a high scoring game that ended in La Tech’s first loss this season. This game showed how far the Dawgs and Hilltoppers have come over the last few years. Last season we saw our Dawgs grow up before our eyes and win the C-USA Western Division Title. Not to mention, the Dawgs won the Heart of Dallas Bowl against Big IX foe Illinois. This season, with the addition of Jeff Driskel, a transfer from Florida, I had Tech winning the Western Division for the second straight year. After Thursdays game, I stand firm that the Dawgs can still win the title.

Jeff Driskel completed 28 passes for 48 throws. Driskel had 357 yards and 2 passing touchdowns.  He also had 55 yards rushing with a touchdown. Running Back Kenneth Dixion retuned for his senior year, and what a year he is having! On Thursday he had his second straight 100 yard rushing game this season and it is only the second game! Dixion had 22 carries with 168 yards and two touchdowns. On several plays, Dixion was seen carrying the Hilltopper defense down the field on his back. On one of his two rushing touchdowns, he powered his way through that defense and carried 2 defenders on with him across the goal line. Dixion is really making a name for himself this season and we may see his name called on the second day of the draft this next spring. Trent Taylor led both teams in receptions and receiving yards in the matchup. Taylor had 9 receptions for 119 yards.

Thursdays 41-38 loss will not slow down the Dawgs this season. On the 19th, the Dawgs travel to Kansas State before they come home to resume conference play.
