Kings Don’t Rest During Bye Week

Normally on bye weeks, teams rest up for their next opponent. Not the Kings. The Kings took the time to do a little recruiting. They signed two former (2015) ALL-Louisiana Team members, Jonah Austin and Jordan Batiste.

Jonah Austin Position: OL Height: 6-6 Weight: 330 Class: Senior Hometown: New Orleans, La. High School: St. Augustine

At Nicholls St.: Started Left Tackle in every game as a Senior.

At LSU: Was a backup offensive lineman… saw action as additional offensive lineman when the Tigers are in short-yardage or goalline situations … played in 12 games for his career, seeing action in five in 2014… played in seven games as a redshirt sophomore in 2013… did not see any game action in 2012… redshirted as a true freshman in 2011.

At St. Augustine: One of four in-state offensive linemen to sign with LSU in 2011 … A three-star prospect according to Rivals.com and Scout.com … Ranked No. 34 in the state of Louisiana by Rivals and No. 24 in Louisiana by Tigerbait.com … Ranked No. 46 offensive tackle by Scout.com … Named a New Orleans Times Picayune Blue-Chip recruit … Named to Louisiana 5A All-State team … A member of The Advocate’s Honorable Mention Super Dozen … Anchored a formidable offensive line at St. Augustine with fellow commit Trai Turner … Coached by David Johnson.

Personal: Born Oct. 16, 1992 in New Orleans … parents are Charlie and Laverne Austin… has one brother, Charleston … graduated from LSU in the summer of 2015 with a degree in interdisciplinary studies.

2015: All- Louisiana Team… Played in all 11 games as a Senior. Finished his Senior year with 66 tackles, 7 tackles for a loss, 4 sacks, 1 interception, 2 forced fumbles, and 3 pass breakups.

2014: Honorable mention All-Southland Conference selection … Played 13 games, starting seven games in the defensive backfield … Closed out junior year with 51 tackles (31 solo), 6.5 tackles for loss, one sack, one interception, one forced fumble and four passes defended … Opened Southeastern career with a forced fumble that teammate Micah Eugene returned for a touchdown in a 44-3 win over Jacksonville … Intercepted a pass to go with a season-high seven tackles in a 41-14 victory over Southern Utah …  Made six tackles at Southeast Missouri, Lamar and Stephen F. Austin … Credited with five tackles – including two for loss – at Tulane … Also had five tackles in 41-24 victory over Central Arkansas … Recorded a sack in 30-22 victory over Northwestern State.

Prior to Southeastern: Two-time honorable mention All-Conference USA season at Tulane … Earned second team All-Louisiana honors as a sophomore, leading the Green Wave with four forced fumbles and seven sacks … Also finished with 35 tackles, eight pass breakups, one interception and one fumble recovery … Started 10 games as a freshman, posting 41 tackles, eight pass breakups and an interception.

High School: Two-time All-State and All-District selection at Lutcher High School … Helped lead LHS to three district titles during his career … Totaled 328 tackles and seven interceptions … Rated a three-star recruit by Rivals.com, Scout.com, ESPN.com and 247Sports.com coming out of high school.

Personal: Born Jordan Edward Batiste in New Orleans … Parents are Calvin and Denesia Batiste … Has a sister, Chelsie.

 

The Kings look to continue their season on June 4th when they travel to play the Mississippi Brawlers.
