Each season players look forward to something, rather it is playing a specific team or seeing how the team improved from last season. Last season Donovan and the Higley Knights were able to win the Arizona 5A championship. This season they are looking to repeat.

“Besides recruiting I want to go get that ring, we are doing that right now, that is our biggest goal because we won state last year and we know we have a target on our back, and with that target comes a high standard and more responsibility, and every game we are going to get the opponent teams best.”

S Donovan Aidoo – When asked about what he looked forward to going into this season.

Teams cannot win if they do not play as one unit or together. Playing football requires you to play as a team, not one individual can carry a team to victory. Being a good teammate is important to a team’s success.

“Someone who is able to lead and can set by example, and when someone messes up or has a mistake be someone that doesn’t get down on them or yell at them you got to be able to support them because we all make a mistake as a teammate, when something is wrong you have to call them out but also be able to do it constructively, can’t get down on people, you got to able to support and take charge.”

S Donovan Aidoo – When asked about what makes a good teammate.

Having a strong support system is important. Being able to have people that you can turn to whenever things get tough or even for motivation is important for young athletes. Most times when an athlete has people that always support them, it makes them play better as a player.

“Definitely my mom and dad, they’ve been my biggest supporters throughout the way and through the ups and downs no matter what it was they were there to support me.”

S Donovan Aidoo – When asked about who has supported him along his journey.

Each player has different motivations for playing football. Having something or someone that motivates you as player, allows you to work harder to strengthen your craft.

“What motivates me is that every time I’m working out or at practice, I am always out working someone, and when I’m resting someone is working and getting better than me. That motivates me to get better because I always want to be the best that I can be and be the best out of everyone and at any opportunity I want to be able to work harder and be 1% better than everyone else. I am waking up early mornings to go workout and always thinking that I’m getting 1% better.”

S Donovan Aidoo – When asked about what motivates him to play or get better.

In order to get better as a football player, you have to study and watch some best players that play the game. To become a great football player, you have to learn and see what it takes to become great.

“I definitely can see myself as a Shawn Taylor, Jamal Adams type of guy, I feel like those two big players at the safety positions. They can hit and be a ball hawk, I feel like I model my game after them.”

S Donovan Aidoo – When asked about who he would compare himself to or model game after

Last season Donovan was able to lead the Higley Knights to 12-2 record and a playoff berth. He was able to lead the Higley Knights Defense and the football team all the way to the Arizona State Championship. They ended up winning 41-21 over Cactus High School and giving Higley High School their first football championship.

“I learned that I play a big role on the team and a big leader. Not in a selfish way, I feel like I have a big impact, and whenever I feel down it affects the whole team. Whatever is going on we got to have a high spirit because if not it can impact the rest of us.”

S Donovan Aidoo – When asked about what he learn about himself and the team last season.

Donovan is currently in his senior year of high school. At this moment he has 16 D1 college football offers and some of those offers include Arizona University, Harvard University, and Arizona State University. After this season he looks to hopefully have added another state championship ring and collect more offers.

“I plan to play D1 college football, and I want to study mechanical engineering. I want to go to the league, but we all know it is very hard so if I don’t attain those dreams and aspirations, I definitely want to take my major and use it to get a job somewhere.”

S Donovan Aidoo – When asked about his plans after High School.

Every athlete has a moment where they fall in love with their sport. Each athlete has a starting point in their career.

“Started playing tackle football when I was 8.”

S Donovan Aidoo – When ask about what age he started playing football.

A lot of professional athletes played multiple sports growing up. Some athletes are good enough to even be recruited in multiple sports.

““I run track, and I played basketball my freshman year.”
