Jaylen Haywood is a promising student-athlete from Amite High School, belonging to the class of 2027. What are some things you have overcome in life?

” Losing my Uncle Ervin, who also served as my godfather, was a profound loss that deeply affected me. I had to navigate through the process of grieving and learning how to find happiness again despite his absence from my life.”

What are your biggest accomplishments?

” Playing my first playoff game as a freshman and starting on the field was an incredible and unforgettable experience.”

What player do you compare yourself to and why?

” I would say Michael Oher because of our shared humility and protective instincts for our loved ones. Some people even say I bear a resemblance to him.”

What are your plans once you’re done with football and why?

” After my football career, I aim to pursue my passion for engineering by starting my own company. Specifically, I aspire to specialize in demolition engineering, leveraging my skills and expertise to undertake challenging projects.”

What are some goals you have for yourself, and your team next season?

“ I am dedicated to building my strength both in the classroom and on the field, focusing on staying healthy and mentally prepared for the upcoming season. I am committed to working together with my teammates to pursue our goal of winning a championship this season.”

What do you like about the sport of football and how is it significant to you?

“The excitement of the game and the thrill of winning are unmatched experiences for me. Football not only brings my family together, as they all love the sport, but it also fills me with an incredible adrenaline rush every time I step onto the field.”

What is an interesting fact about you outside of football?

” I am actively involved in my church, Mt. Teamer Freewill Baptist Church, where I sing. It’s a meaningful way for me to participate in my faith community and share my talents with others.”

What is your dream school?

” My dream schools include Georgia, Alabama, LSU, Texas, and Ole Miss.”

What position do you enjoy playing the most and why?

” Playing left tackle makes me feel like I’m in my element and unstoppable. I excel at protecting my quarterback’s blindside, and it’s where I feel most confident and effective on the field.”

What are some ways your coaches have helped you?

” My coaches play a pivotal role in motivating me to achieve my best. They never allow me to succumb to defeat, always pushing me to persevere and give my all. Their dedication to helping me improve goes above and beyond, as they consistently go the extra mile to provide support and guidance.”

What colleges have you received any offers or interest from if any and what is your dream college to play for?

” Currently, I haven’t received any offers, but I’m optimistic that with perseverance and hard work, opportunities will come my way, hopefully with some prayers too. Being in the 9th grade, I’m grateful for any chance to play for a team. My dream is to play for Georgia, but I’m open to any opportunity that comes my way.”
