Winfred Avant is a name to be on the lookout for this upcoming season. The class of ’26 defensive end from Southwood High School out of Shreveport, LA, passes all the tests you could think of for a future stud and team player. He is looking to have his breakout senior season as well, leading his team to a state championship this upcoming season. Standing at 6ft 225 lbs, he passes the eye test with flying colors. Watching some of his film, you can see that he is quick on his feet for his size and also pretty good with his hands. At DE last season, he recorded 2 sacks along with 30 tackles. He expressed that this offseason, he is putting in as much work as possible with his coaches to improve this season drastically. One thing he expressed he was working on was his strength aspect, his current maxes on bench press is 235, and his max squat is 400 IBS.
Getting the chance to speak with Winfred, I quickly realized his determination to improve his game each and every day. Last season, Winfred suffered a shoulder injury that cut his season short around the later midseason mark. Since then, he has been heavily rehabbed and says he feels in even better shape than before the injury. Rolling into his final season with the Southwood Cowboys, he is striving to leave the team in better shape than when he came in. With that, he says his main goal is to take his level of leadership up a few notches. Just having a conversation with Winfred was truly pumping me up to see how he performs next season! We wish Winfred and the Southwood Cowboys the best of luck for the upcoming season!
