DITR: Davyn Keicher TE Pearl River (Pearl River, LA)

Gridiron Football would like to welcome our newest Diamond in the Rough Davyn Keicher out of the class of 2027. Davyn has good size at 6’1 192lbs with solid speed, clocking in at a 4.76 40 yard dash time. All of this, combined with his great hands makes him a reliable target for a quarterback. Davyn is a strong player that can assist with blocking while still providing a safety net for a quarterback as a target for a checkdown pass. He also has a quick first step to break up field and is unafraid of contact, making him a constant physical presence. Davyn was honorable mention all district last season despite not being a full time starter and looks to provide even more production going into his senior year at Pearl River.

Here’s my interview with Davyn Keicher!

What got you into football?

Well I remember when I was real young my dad grew up playing football and, he was expected to play at a college level and it kind of got cut short. So, my mom and him kind of decided that was gonna be my path. They put me in football my first year at age 6 or so and I’ve been playing since.

Was there a play or moment that got you into your position?

I’ve had a lot of different positions, I started off as a quarterback and shortly after that I moved to running back, and after that went into middle school and played receiver and since then I’ve been a receiver/tight end type of guy.

Was there a player you tried to emulate early?

Even before I was a receiver I would admire Odell Beckham. That was a guy that I’d watch and try to mimic and, I remember just watching Giants games back in the day and watching him have that one hand snag and I kind of fell in love with that position. Obviously I’m not a shifty slot guy so being a tight end I’ve admired the Tony Gonzalez type of tight-end. That just goes out and catches straight coverage balls or anything and just having the ball in your hands.

What’s your strongest attribute on the football field?

My strongest attribute is my mental game just no matter what situation we are in I know that I’ve got a job to do and I’ll get that job no matter what it takes.

Who would you compare your playstyle to?

I current tight-end I would say is Sam LaPorta.

What differentiates you from the rest?

I feel like a lot of people in high school play football just to say they played football and just to be apart of a sports team. I’m currently playing football cause I think I have a really good shot of showing people what I can do and play at a college level.

Favorite football to hit?

I would have to say probably just shoulder down head on running someone over. I’m not really much of a juking person if I see someone in open field I’m most likely dropping my shoulder and going to get positive yardage.

What’s your favorite part about football?

Really just how it connects a group of people. Like it’s crazy to see with some teams how you can just throw random guys together and over the course of weeks of straight grinding, sweat, blood, and everything how much love you can have for the guys next to you and how much y’all can bond together and really become a team.

Dream NFL teammate?

I feel like I would like to be teammates with Travis Hunter, I feel like that dudes real energetic and an outgoing guy and I feel like I can match that energy.

What’s your biggest motivator?

I’d say my Mom. She actually calls herself the momager and she just always wants to see me succeed. Anytime I have a good play she’s the loudest one in the stands, every time I’m at a camp she’s the one behind the phone recording, she’s constantly reminding me to send emails out and just on me all the time.

Favorite football movie?

I would have to say Greater, great story.
