DITR: Broderick Brown Jr., CB/ATH, Heights HS (Houston, TX)

Broderick Brown Jr. is a 5-foot-10-inch senior ATH who plays CB but also gets many of his highlight reels on kick and punt returns. His elite 4.4 speed allows him to make some amazing plays in the return game for his team. His speed transfers over from his development on the track, with him recording times of 11.23 in the 100-meter dash and 22.69 in the 200-meter. His defensive ability can not be overlooked either as he is lockdown in coverage and a hard-hitting corner who has no problem getting involved in the run support.

Broderick is also very involved in the Houston area providing service to many community projects throughout his high school years.

He has received offers from Arkansas State and Texas State and is looking to gain more attention with his performance this year.

Check out my interview with Broderick below:

Okay first question: Who is favorite NFL/College player that you try to model your game after?

My favorite college player that I try to model my game after is Travis Hunter, Travis is a student of the game and is always willing to learn something new to perfect his craft.

What’s your favorite thing about playing CB?

My favorite thing about playing CB is that I can come downhill and tackle, I love getting involved in the run game.

I see you run track as well, how long have you been running? What’s your favorite event?

I’ve always been fast but I started running track in the 8th grade, my favorite event is the 100m but I also love the 200m.

I see you have offers from Texas State and Arkansas State, what are some other dream schools you would love to play at?

I would love to play at the University of Florida, I love their atmosphere and how competitive they are, also the weather there is great.

So over the 3 seasons so far, What has been your favorite HS game of your career so far and what made it your favorite?

My favorite HS game of my career so far was my sophomore year against Hightower and what made it my favorite game so far was that I made the biggest hit of my career and it changed the momentum of the game, we ended up losing but it still was a great experience.

How have the coaches and players around you at Heights helped you improve to be the best that you can be?

All of my coaches have made me into the good young man that I am today, they love football and winning games but when it comes to us, that’s one of the last things they are worried about. Their goal is to make sure when we leave high school we are something more than just a football player. My teammates brought me out of my shy shell and gave the personality that I have now, I love all of them to death.

Entering your senior year, what are some personal/team goals that you look to accomplish this year?

Entering my senior I personally wanted to make sure I didn’t give up anything over 100 yards in the passing game throughout the entire season. Some team goals that we have is to win the district championship and make a run in the playoffs. As a defense we’ve scored in every game and we scored 67 points in 6 games so we look forward to keeping that up.

You guys have started the season off 4-2, what is something that has been working well this season and what’s something the team can improve on?

Something that have been working well for us this season is that when adversity hits us in the mouth we swing back and don’t hang our heads when something isn’t going our way. Something that we can improve on as a team is not getting comfortable when we are up on an opponent and keep our foot on their necks and not showing any mercy for all 4 quarters of the game.

What’s a game you are looking forward to this season?

The game that I am looking forward to is when we play Lamar High School for the district championship. Lamar gives us a run for our money every year but this year we have an outstanding group of guys that will help us come out on top when the clock hits double zeros.
