Diamond in the Rough: Nick Oliveira

Nick Oliveira is a class of 2023 offensive tackle from Clearview High School in Mullica Hill, New Jersey. He is a 6’5 aggressive and physical lineman with tremendous run blocking ability. Weighing in at about 285 pounds, Nick is an athletic lineman who uses his athleticism to move up into the secondary and make blocks downfield. While watching his highlights, I noticed his aggression is on display every time he steps on the field. He plays hard and does not stop blocking his defender till the whistle blows. Nick’s pass protection was also impressive. He does a great job of not allowing his defender to get inside of him or contain the outside. With his physicality and athleticism, I’m surprised he’s only been playing football since his freshman year of high school. Currently Nick has a max 315lbs bench, 400lbs squat, 600lbs deadlift and 280lbs clean.

When did you start playing football?

I started playing football my freshman year of high school

What is your biggest strength?

My biggest strength is definitely my aggressiveness. Every play has to end in a pancake.

What is your personal goal for this season?

My personal goals were to break my pancake record I set last year and to make 1st team all state.

What have you learned about yourself playing football?

I learned that I can battle thru a lot of adversity and push my body to its limits.

Are there any aspects of the game that you worked on this past offseason/summer?

I really worked on my pass protection skills. I went to many camps and perfected my stance and steps.

What do you love about playing football?

I love being able to do and see so much that I never could if I didn’t achieve this level of success in football .

Can you describe a time where you might have experienced some type of diversity ?

I tore my PCL last year mid-way through my junior season. I was fortunate enough to be able to not miss any games. But it was a struggle to find confidence to not be afraid of getting hurt again .

What are some of your hobbies?

My hobbies have always been pretty normal. Playing Xbox and going out with my friends. I’ve always loved lifting weights and trying to make myself as big as possible.

Who would you say is your biggest role model/ someone you look up to?

I look up to Trent Williams a lot.

What separates you from the thousands of other recruits trying to play division I football?

What separated me from others was my physically dominant play style. I think that’s why Cincinnati loved me so much .

What is something that you would want college coaches to know about you?

I want Cincinnati coaches and fans to know I’m ready to work and get us to a national championship.
