Diamond in the Rough: Kaden Dixon

Kaden Dixon is a class of 2024 running back out of Center High School in Center, Texas. Standing at 6’2″ and weighing 190 pounds with a 3.2 GPA, the junior can bench 210 pounds, squat 345 pounds, and run 40 yards in 4.43 seconds. Dixon is a speedy back who always looks to get more out of the weight room. Recently, I had the nice opportunity to speak with Dixon.

Q: Why do you play the game?

“I have a lot of love for the sport. I’ve been playing football since I was young, and I really liked playing football [ever since]. I just really like pursuing that dream of playing.”

Q: What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned playing football?

“You have got to take it one play at a time. You’re going to mess up sometimes, but you’ve got to keep going.”

Q: What does football mean to you?

“Football means a lot to me. It means love, it means aggression, it means power… and all around, it means family to me.”

Q: What challenges have you overcome?

“I had a broken collarbone and a broken wrist that I had to come back from. And coming off a losing season too…”

Q: What motivates you to keep playing, especially after those injuries?

“I wanted to come back and ehlp my teammates win this season. I went to the weight room, lifted some weights, and got stronger and faster. I just wanted to come out and win.”

Q: How do you balance sports with your other responsibilities?

“I maintain good grades in class. I do that by just paying attention and doing my work.”

Q: Do you have a favorite football memory?

“When I scored six touchdowns against Dangerfield. [That’s a good one to remember.]”

Q: How do you stay trained and in football-shape during the offseason?

“I go do speed training, I go to the weight room, and I do some work in school in the offseason. I do a bit of running on my own time, and I practice for track since I run track too.”

Q: How are you looking to improve your game?

“Well since I’ve got one more year left of high school ball, I feel like after we get this season over with, going out to the weight room and working out and getting better in my cuts.”

Q: On the other side, what is the strongest aspect of your game?

“Probably my heart. I have a lot of pride in what I do, and that is what keeps me focused and maintaining anything on the field.”

Q: What are some goals you’ve set for yourself?

“Well at the beginning of this season, I posted on Twitter that I wanted over 1,000 yards. I’ve surpassed that goal, and I want to have a certain mind of this and that. I’m still going, and I sure hope to have more to add to it this year.”

Q: Do you try to model your game after any players, pro or collegiate?

“Tony Pollard. He’s a very quick running back and good [everywhere] on the field.”

Q: What is your favorite part of playing running back?

“It’s like a ‘wow’ factor. You don’t know when you’re going to break and you don’t know if you’re going to get tackled in the backfield. [But breaking is a big favorite of mine.]”

Q: Do you consider football to be more physically challenging, mentally challenging, or a bit of both?

“A little bit of both. Physically, you have to be strong [to do well]. Mentally, you have to be able to think back there.”

Q: What is something you want your coaches to know about you, past, present, or future?

“How fast I am about the game.”
