Diamond in the Rough: Jake Jones

Jake Jones is the electric quarterback out of Scottsboro High School. A true duel-threat QB with a good frame of 6’2, 190 pounds, he looks to improve on the team’s success from last year when they finished 8-3. Through the first 7 games, they are sitting at 6-1 currently. Jake Jones has a 4.0 GPA and is constantly looking to improve on and off the field in his crafts. His next game will be tonight, against rivals Guntersville.

When did you start playing football?

“I started playing football when I was five years old.”

What made you start playing?

“I started playing football because of the people I looked up to, whether that was my brother or players I saw on TV. I wanted to be just like them.”

What do you love about football?

“The thing I love most about football is playing alongside my brothers. We have put in so much work together and I love seeing that payoff.”

What player, NFL or College did you model your game after?

“I really like how Johnny Manziel was able to extend plays. He created plays after they broke down, which was why he was so electric.”

What would your teammates say about you?

“My teammates would say that I am a leader that always plays hard and gives it all I that I have for the team. Also that I am fun to play with, and I always have fun playing football.”

What is your motivation?

“My motivation for everything I do in football is my love for the game. I have grown up loving football so I give everything I have to the game because it has blessed me with so much, like bonds with my teammates and coaches that will never be broken.”

What parts of your game are you working on right now?

“I am actively working on understanding defenses and coverages, so I can be able to pick apart the defense more effectively.”

What is your goal for this season?

“My goals for this season are for our team to make a deep playoff run, win a region championship, and win region offensive player of the year.”

What game or moment in the game has been your favorite up to this point?

“My favorite game moment so far has to be from my sophomore year, when we beat Guntersville 17-14. We were not favored and we still proved everyone wrong and found a way to win that game.”

What do you do on your free time outside of school?

“I like to play video games and hangout with my friends in my free time.”

What is one thing that you think college coaches and recruiters should know about you?

“One thing that college coaches or recruiters should know about me is that I am good in the classroom as well, with a 30 ACT.”

What do you think your best trait is?

“My best trait has to be my toughness. I play hard all the time, no matter what pain I am feeling or who I am playing against. Whoever I am lined up against is going to have to have help to bring me down because I am going to drag everyone I can to try and get into the end-zone.”
