Diamond in the Rough: Bryan Wilson (CA)

Bryan Ayala is a well-rounded dual-threat quarterback out of Ayala High School in Chino Hills, Califonia. He is a 3⭐ and the 33rd ranked recruit from the state of Califonia in the class of 2024, according to 247 Sports Composite. He has played in 4 games so far in his junior season and has thrown for 47 completions, 905 yards, and 8 touchdowns. He added another 46-yards and 2 touchdowns on the ground. The 6”0’ 205-Pound QB is currently uncommitted but holds offers from Florida State and Texas A&M.

He plays extremely composed when in the pocket and can sense pressure while still making reads on receivers downfield. He goes through his pocket progressions extremely well for a junior in high school, which allows the Ayala high school offense to operate very smoothly, and in turn, they consistently put up points.

What is something you would want college coaches to know about you?

“I want college coaches to know that I am ranked the #1 dual-threat quarterback in California and can bring a winning mentality to any college program. I have started since I was a freshman and my win/loss ratio is currently 19-1. I would also want them to know that I take great pride in my academic success as I have an accumulated 4.2 GPA, and I work very hard to earn these grades consistently.”

What makes you unique as a prospect?

“My work ethic is second to none, and I am a student of the game. Instead of just relying on my talent, I rely on my preparation, such as breaking down film, making sure the offense clicks, and consistently working on my quarterback mechanics. I can beat defenses with my arm as well as my legs.”

Do you have any goals for the rest of your high school career?

“I have a couple of goals:

I want to win a CIF championship as our school has never won one

I want to increase the exposure for my teammates and help them get opportunities to play at the next level.

I want to continue improving, growing, and becoming a better player and leader.”

What is your biggest strength as a football player?

“Most quarterbacks can throw the ball well and be athletic when needed at this level. What sets me apart is my IQ, my knowledge of the game, my grit, and my leadership.”

Who do you look up to as an athlete?

“A great role model I look up to as an athlete is Lebron James because he embodies what it means to be “more than an athlete.” I realize that playing a sport is only for a very short time in life, and like Lebron, I hope to be able to use my success as a launchpad for more extensive endeavors.

When I look back on my life when I’m older, I’m not going to determine if I was successful just on the football field; I will be judging myself through my success in all areas of life.”

What role do you play as a leader on the team?

“I lead the team by example and take care of the details in games, practices, and meetings; for instance, running the quarterback room, ensuring everyone is on the same page in offensive meetings, going 100% in practice, and doing their job.”

What’s your favorite football memory?

“My favorite football memory was being named varsity starter as a freshman. It felt great that my coaches and team believed in me as a freshman to lead our team, comprised mostly of juniors and seniors.”

If you had to compare yourself to a college of a professional player, Who would it be? Why?

“My game resembles Russell Wilson’s as we can both extend and make plays with our feet, are great leaders, and throw a great deep ball.”

What is an example of you overcoming adversity as an athlete?

“After getting injured in the last game of the regular season last year, which caused me to miss the playoffs. After several months of aggressive rehab and extra work to get back on the field, playing our first game in San Diego and winning was a great moment for me and one, I will never forget.”
