DeReyon “DJ” Jenkins is one of the best defensive players regardless of his position in South Louisiana, especially in the Northshore area. At 6’3, 215 pounds, Jenkins is long, athletic, rangy, and brings some good speed off the edge to make it tough on any opposing offensive line. His incredible length sticks out as his 80.5″ wing span makes it absolutely tough for offensive linemen to put their hands on him and keep him contained. His blend of length, speed, and size makes him certainly a matchup nightmare for opposing offensive coordinators.
The 1st Team All-District and All-Parish defensive end has made an immediate impact with the Pope John Paul II Jaguars. As of now, the Jaguars are undefeated at 6-0 and Jenkins has become a big part of it already. After having a great junior campaign for Salmen, Jenkins is already posting some nice numbers three games into his senior season with 21 tackles, two sacks, 5 TFLs, 2 QB hurries, and a fumble recovery.
College coaches have caught on to this athletic pass rusher as Jenkins has been offered by Grambling, Central Florida, Central Arkansas, and Lafayette. At the conclusion of his senior season, DeReyon Jenkins will play his final high school football game by playing in the 2024 Gridiron Football All-American Bowl Game.
