D.I.T.R: Cole Watson

Cole Watson is a 6’1 190 athlete that plays both sides of the ball for the Tatum Eagles. Watson is one of the returning seniors for the team this upcoming season. On the offense, he is your dream dual threat college quarterback that has a great arm and the ability to run with legs and fight for extra yards. A very tough kid that isn’t afraid to lower the shoulder while playing quarterback or linebacker. At linebacker, Watson has the speed to run sideline to sideline making every tackle in his area. Cole is looking to make a splash in his senior season to help bring a district title to Tatum High School.

Here is Cole Watson’s interview with me.

When did you start playing football?

I started playing tackle football in 4th grade.

Have you always played both sides of the ball?

I started playing linebacker when I got to High School. My father needed an extra linebacker and I guess I did a pretty good job.

What are some hobbies you like to do outside of school?

I like to hang with my friends friends, fish, and hunt.

Have you played other sports outside of football?

I have played basketball, baseball, track, and powerlifting.

What was it like playing for Tatum this past year?

It was fun, we had a great group of kids. The team surprised a lot of people this past year.

Is there a NCAA/NFL player that you would compare yourself to?

I like Jalen Hurts… he’s a big quarterback who likes to run through players.

What skills do you have that sets yourself from the other quarterbacks?

My ability to extend plays and fight for more yards. I’m not your quarterback that just runs out of bounds to avoid tacklers.

Do you have a favorite football moment in your young career?

Going to the semifinals my sophomore and beating Gladewater this past year. It was Tatum’s first time beating them in years.

Who pushes you to be better through your football journey?

My father, he’s the defensive coordinator here at Tatum. He makes sure I’m on top of my grades and working hard at whatever I do. He has made me into a person and player I am today.

What has Coach Keeling done to improve your football career?

He gave me a shot as a freshman to start for the varsity team and I have never looked back since.

What are your senior goals while at Tatum?

I want to win the district and make a playoff run.

How do you succeed as a teammate?

I keep the guys loose and encourage my teammates. We click very well when we do all of those things.

Do you have a certain every gameday ritual?

I go get my ankles taped after the time I’m supposed to, I probably shouldn’t do that anymore.

What are future colleges getting out you?

“Tough kid that loves to play the game.”

Where do you see yourself a year from now on signing day?

I hope to sign to a good college program that gives me the best chance to play and gets me a degree.

How can you improve your game over the next few year?

I want to get stronger, faster, play lighter on my feet when I play linebacker. Make sure I continue to be a good leader. Lastly, get my reads and plays on the offensive side of the ball down as well.
