Cajuns fall to Red Wolves

By: Dave Parks, Intern

JONESBORO, Ark. – The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns trailed 34-7, but used a big second half to almost catch the Arkansas Sate Red Wolves before falling 37-27.

The Cajuns offense was led by Jalen Nixon who had 200 yards passing and 200 yards rushing, becoming only the second Cajun quarterback to ever do so. UL is now 2-4 on the year and 1-1 in conference play.

The Red Wolves got off to a quick start and were up 27-0 in the second quarter, before Nixon raced 75 yards for the Cajuns first score. The Red Wolves scored again but the Cajuns’ Elijah McGuire was able to find the endzone and the Cajuns went into halftime down 34-14.

In the second half, the Cajun defense stepped up and only allowed a field goal. The Cajuns scored again with five seconds left in the third quarter when Al Riles caught a Nixon touchdown pass, making the score 37-21. Nixon connected with McGuire for another touchdown pass in the fourth quarter, but it was not enough and the Cajuns fell 37-27.

Nixon’s finished with 253 yards passing with two touchdowns and 201 yards rushing with a touchdown. McGuire added 32 yards rushing and a touchdown and led the receivers with ten receptions for 134 yards and a touchdown. Gabe Fuselier had three for 72 yards and Al Riles had  four catches for 47 yards and a touchdown.

The Cajuns will return home to Lafayette to face the ULM Warhawks for an in-state matchup. Kick-off will be at 4 p.m. on Halloween afternoon and will air on ESPN3.
