Buckeye (LA) 2026 LB Ty Curtis is Gridiron Football Player of Week 3!

For the second week in a row, a linebacker has won the Gridiron Football Player of the Week award. Last week, it was Pine (LA) 2026 LB Cadyn Stogner and this week, it is Buckeye High School (LA) 2026 LB Ty Curtis that wins the award in Week 3.

Curtis was one of 15 nominees from three different states to be nominated and it was Curtis that dominated the fan vote as he was able to get 33,155 votes from the Buckeye fans. That total was 20,951 more votes than the second place finisher.

“You can’t put a price on it. With everybody coming together and for him to do what he did, we see it with the fan votes, but we also see it on Friday nights everywhere we go. It’s encouraging and it makes the players feel good. It makes the coaches feel good. We enjoy it.”

“It’s huge. Everybody around here is very supportive. Honestly, it is our community that is the heartbeat of our program. We are a small school in the middle of nowhere. The community supports us a lot and that is what drives us.”

Not only was the number of votes impressive by Buckeye, but it seemed to almost match the number of tackles that Curtis had last Friday night. In a 27-26 win over South Beauregard, Curtis had an impressive 24 total tackles (14 solo, 10 assists) in just one game. The number of tackles is quite impressive to have over a three game period let alone just one game.

“I knew it was the most tackles I had at the end of the game because it definitely felt like I tackled somebody 24 times.”

“This was a first for me. I knew he had a great night because on every snap, all you see is #8. I am fine with that and getting our best guy around the football. It was kind of funny because we were sitting after the game and we knew he had a great night, but we didn’t know how good of a night it was. We looked at it and realized that he had 24 tackles. It is pretty amazing by this kid.”

The Buckeye Panthers are off to an amazing start to the season with a 3-0 record as they will look to improve their record to 4-0 against Avoyelles. Like Cadyn Stogner a week ago, winning Gridiron Football Player of the Week was just the icing on the cake to a great week as Curtis also received an offer to play in the 2025 Gridiron Football All-American Bowl Game, which will be played at Louisiana Christian University on December 30th in Pineville, Louisiana.

“I’m excited for him. It is great for him. He has his aspirations of playing at the next level and is great for the program to get a little recognition knowing that you can go out there and play at the next level. As much as I can brag on Ty, the guys around him have helped him to this point. We are going to be able to follow his track all the way to the end and see where it goes.”

This 24 tackle game is just an example of what kind of lunchpail player Ty Curtis has been throughout his career as an All-State player and wants to continue bringing that mentality to the next level.

“I might not always be the best player on the field, but I am always going to be the best player to help the team.”
