Arch Manning and the Newman Greenies Take On Tackett Curtis and the Many Tigers In Matchup Of Unbeatens

Tomorrow night will feature a huge heavyweight matchup between two undefeated teams in the Newman Greenies and the Many Tigers. Although it is a highly anticipated matchup between two of the top programs in the state, it is also a matchup featuring two of the top players not only in the state, but in the country as well with Newman quarterback Arch Manning going up against Many linebacker Tackett Curtis. It is a future matchup between a future Texas Longhorn in Arch against a future USC Trojan in Tackett, and both players have been preparing all week to go against each other.

Besides being a part in this huge game in the state of Louisiana, both Newman head coach Nelson Stewart and Many head coach Jess Curtis are as equally as excited to see how these two star players fare against each other.

“I can tell you watching film on Tackett, I don’t think I’ve seen someone like him, his impact, what he does as a defensive player, just how he attacks the line of scrimmage and how aggressive he plays.”

“When you play a guy like Arch, you know that he’s going to be very accurate, and that he knows where he is going to go with the football so it’s going to be a really good challenge for us.”

Not only are the opposing coaches big fans of the top stars on the field, but they are fans of each other and their programs.

“It’s going to be a great match up. It’s one reason we put on the schedule. We knew it would generate a lot of excitement. We have a great atmosphere here at Many. We always have a great atmosphere, but when you start to add a talent like Arch and all the guys that Newman has on the field, I think it’s going to be a great matchup. It is a really a clash between north and south Louisiana.”

“It is certainly an all-star matchup. I understand that. It’s exciting that two teams from the select and non-select sides will get to have this matchup. I know Arch is ready and that he is excited. We’ve got a ton of respect for Many and I’ve been fortunate to call a few of their games on the radio. Jess has build a powerhouse and his kids play tremendously hard. I think the state is going to be excited. It is one of those things that we don’t get to see very much, but I am excited and I hope the kids get to bring this experience with them for the rest of their lives because that is what Louisiana high school football is all about.”

Both teams are up to the challenge as although both teams are only Class 2A teams, they are both not afraid to schedule some of the best competition in the state in order to help them achieve their ultimate goal, which is to win a state championship.

The Many Tigers are riding a 12 game winning streak thanks to their power rushing attack and dominant defense led by Curtis and four star safety Tylen Singleton. In the first three games of the season, the Tigers have stifled their first three opponents by outscoring them 125-13. Coach Curtis obviously loves how his defense has performed, but knows the toughest challenge for his unit will be tomorrow night.

“Well, returning ten out of eleven guys and the last was a rotation guy, so that’s a lot of guys that play a lot of football. Most of them started since their sophomore year so to have those guys out there battle hardened, this is probably one of our best starts we’ve had since I’ve been here. Giving up one touchdown in three games is pretty good. We played up in class every week including a five, a four, and another five for us to have that good of a start, it’s pretty cool for us.”

The Newman Greenies have had a great start in their own right because of their high powered offense as Arch Manning has thrown for 790 yards and 11 touchdowns in the team’s first three games. Headlined by Manning and Texas tight end commit Will Randle, the Greenies have averaged 44 points per game in its wins against Hahnville, Riverside Academy, and most recently, Benton when the Greenies overcame an 18 point deficit in order to come back and win. Coach Stewart is proud of how his team has been able to overcome adversity against teams higher in class, and he believes that will help his team as they take on a football powerhouse inside their hostile environment.

“Going into the year, I thought our team came in with a wealth of experience with a lot of guys that played for us since they were sixth graders. They have a lot of experience in big game settings. They are resilient and have been able to step up in big environments each and every week. Our kids battled, played smart, and in the end, it is going to come down to our defense being tough, having good offensive line play, and running the football.”

“Then, you add in Arch as everything is coming together for him and is playing like a senior with total confidence in what he is doing. Every week, he does something that amazes me even more. He is a special quarterback and our team’s resiliency coming back from an 18 point deficit against Benton speaks volumes of these kids as they have tons of emotional maturity.”

Coach Stewart continued to go on about how his team was mentally ready and mature enough to go and take on its biggest challenge of the year, but as always, Coach Curtis and the Tigers will certainly make it tough for the visiting Greenies making the four hour and 30 minute drive to Many, Louisiana.

“I think it’s going to be huge and again, they played big games before against good teams, but it’s always good playing at home. We’re twice the team at home and we should be. We have a great community and surrounding area that come supports us every week. We have a great atmosphere and so that’s going to be a big part of it. We got to play our style of football. We got to play our style and play our game. That’s why I try to tell our kids. Play our style of football, play our game, and play the game on our terms.”

It is the classic football matchup between two conflicting styles, which is the unstoppable force of Arch Manning and the Newman Greenies against the immovable object of Tackett Curtis and the Many Tigers.

Not only will there be fireworks before the game in Many’s always spectacular pre-game firework show, but there will be plenty of more fireworks throughout this colossal showdown.
