A Look into E.D. White High School

Thibodaux, LA: Edward Douglas White High School is a school near Thibodaux Louisiana and is home to the Cardinals football team. E. D. White is a catholic school and a 3A school in Louisiana and has a head coach who is in his third year as head coach at the institution. Coach Chris Bergeron has had success last year when he led the cardinals to a 7-5 record, and an 8-4 record the previous year. The team also had a runs in the playoffs in the years under Bergeron.

We took the time to speak with coach Bergeron about his team this year. Coach Bergeron mentioned at the beginning of the interview that he has a young team this year; he had several seniors graduate last year so this year he is working with many new players who are looking for experience in playing high school football. The team has been going through some growing pains so far this season, but the coach stated that it is good that the team goes through this because it helps them grow individually and as a team.

When coach Bergeron was asked how he thought his team has been so far with these few games being played, he stated that they lost their first game to Vanderbilt Catholic, then lost their second game to Lakeshore, but there was a lot of learning between those two games and the team grew greatly while playing those games. Coach Bergeron also wants to put focus on finishing games and executing in a better fashion; and that even though his team is inexperienced in ways, he does not want that to be an excuse to finishing games, which he knows they can do as the season progresses.

When it comes to the academic standards that are set for this team, the coach stated that they are set high for his team. Coach Bergeron said that a number of his players leave his football practice and then attend an honor society meeting directly after. His players also perform well in the classroom and are expected to do so.

Coach Bergeron stated that his offence and defensive lines have been improving and will continue to improve as the season progresses. It was stated that this team will have to grow and mature in order to see success on the field. Once the team and staff does this, there will be success at E.D. White for future games, and games in future seasons.
