On Thursday, I visited Cecilia High School for their spring game against Lakeshore. The Bulldogs have a lot of talent for the upcoming season headlined by four-star athlete and LSU commit Braylon Calais.
Although Calais did not play in the spring game, he was very involved on the sidelines giving advice to his teammates and helping the coaches out on the iPad.
“He has been a leader ever since he has been here. His voice is a little bit louder then it was in the past. Braylon is that kid. He is going to help out his teammates. He is going to be there and helping them along with what they need. He is that guy.”

One would think that a superstar like Calais would be complacent especially after already announcing where he is playing college football, but for him, the work never stops.
“My goals are to just get as much information as possible to the younger players while I am here at Cecilia. I am hoping they ask me as many questions as possible on how to get better as an athlete and as a human being on the field and in the classroom. I am going to contribute to my team as much as possible.”

Calais contributes to his team in numerous ways. The 6’2, 200 pound prospect is a top five ranked athlete in the nation and also the number 10 overall prospect in the state of Louisiana. Coming off a junior campaign in which Calais had over 1,500 yards of total offense and 26 total touchdowns, his role is expected to be expanded even more heading into this season. As Cecilia has been known to do in the past, they like to put their most athletic players at multiple positions. The same can be said for Calais, who said he can play running back, wide receiver, defensive back, quarterback, and even tight end.
“In the offense, I am just a piece that can move around. If they need to put me in different positions to give different looks to the defenses. Last year, I played the whole season at running back and then I played some quarterback. Even on defense, I can play there. Wherever you need me, I can play anything.”

“That is what we do here. We had Diesel playing quarterback, safety, blocking punts. That is just what we do here. We don’t worry about just playing what. We put our best players in the best position to win the ball game. Braylon bought into that and he is going to do whatever it takes.”

This multi-sport athlete who also excels on the basketball court and in track expects that Swiss Army role to extend even more in college. A couple of weeks ago, Calais made his decision to commit to the LSU Tigers over the likes of Texas A&M, Miami, Ohio State, Ole Miss, and Houston. He is most excited about how Lane Kiffin is going to use him in his system, but he also admits that it has been fun getting to know him.
“He is definitely great at pickleball, but jokingly aside, the relationship has been there with Coach Kiffin and he is going to be exciting to play for.”

Calais also stated that with his commitment, he is taking no more visits the rest of the summer and is focused on bringing another state championship back to Cecilia after helping the team win a title as a sophomore.
“A state championship would be beautiful. The rate that we are moving right now, I feel like we are looking way better than I expected. To see all the pieces falling in their current places, we definitely have a shot.”
