Let’s welcome the latest Rising Star, from the class of 2030, Marcelo Gonzalez! Marcelo showed off his skills at the 2025 Gridiron Elite Camp in Westwood, Texas. Marcelo is academically inclined, consistently receiving A Honor Roll, putting him in the running for valedictorian. When it comes to athletics, Marcelo is hardworking and stays well rounded by competing in travel baseball and track, on top of football. He even tied for first in his district track meet! He is currently 5’9 and weighs 150 lbs. He can bench 175 lbs, squat 295 lbs, and has a clean of 185 lbs. For the shuttle and 40 yard dash, Marcelo was timed at 4.72 and 5 seconds. These accomplishments have made Marcelo the next featured Rising Star.

What did you look forward to most at the camp?
“I looked forward to playing with people from out of state, using it as a learning experience, and getting more exposure to competitive football.”
What did you like most about the camp?
“I really liked getting to know the others, and the environment was great.”
What skills do you think you performed well?
“Running.”
Do you think you performed at your best?
“No, ma’am. I think I could have done better.”
What was the most difficult part of the camp for you?
“Probably being around a lot of people I had never met especially the older kids. It really made me anxious.”
If you could go back and change something about your performance, what would it ne?
“Performing better route running, just showing more of what I could do and catching the ball better.”
Are there any specific skills you want to improve?
“1 on 1 route running.”
What are you most proud of about your performance?
“Being able to show up and show what I have to give.”
What is your biggest strength?
“My hardworking aptitude.”
What are your goals for football?
“To make it to a higher level. I want to make a life out of it.”
Why do you play football?
“It’s just a sport I have always known to love, and it inspires me to be better all around.”
Do you have a role model in your life?
“My dad. He is a very hard worker and has taught me and my sister since we were little in our own sports.”
Why did you choose our camp?
“It was close to home, and it was the first camp I had ever done, so I thought it would be good exposure.”
Did you learn any important lessons at the camp?
“I did learn more releases for my routes and a lot of different techniques.”
If you could offer one piece of advice for future players participating in camps, what would it be?
“To overcome your fears of being looked down upon, just go out and show what you have.”
