Gridiron Football Player of the Week: St. Thomas More High School (Lafayette, LA) DB Brian Broussard (13,472 VOTES)

We start the first player of the week poll with a defensive player winning Gridiron Football’s Player of the Week and it was deservingly earned with 13,472 votes going to St. Thomas More High School (Lafayette, LA) defensive back Brian Broussard, who made the difference in a one point 21-20 win over the Carencro Golden Bears with a whopping four interceptions, four pass breakups, and five tackles. He also made a game clinching play for the Cougars with a huge PBU to seal the deal.

2. Sam Houston 2025 RB Drew Bailey: 10,789 votes

The runner-up for this week’s Gridiron Football Player of the Week is Sam Houston High School 2025 RB Drew Bailey, who actually got the better of Leesville’s Xavier Ford in an epic battle of running back performances with Bailey having 32 carries for 310 yards and six touchdowns while also adding four grabs for 42 yards in the Broncos’ 56-41 win over the Wampus Cats. To put the icing on the cake, it was also Bailey’s birthday.

3. Frederick Douglass 2025 DE/LB Vito Odom: 4,567 votes

Frederick Douglass 2025 DE/LB Vito Odom made his imprint on the defensive side of the football as he finished with 14 tackles, 7 TFLs, 4 sacks, and a forced fumble in 28-14 win over Cohen.

4. Terrebonne 2026 Alvin Celestin Jr: 3,589 votes

In a high scoring affair against Riverside Academy, the Terrebonne Tigers needed every big play from their star athlete Alvin Celestin Jr., who finished with 213 yards and 4 rushing touchdowns on only 13 carries plus 4 catches for 41 yards, a 2 point conversion, and even scored game winning TD in final minute to preserve the 48-42 win.

5. Baker 2025 WR/CB Roy McBride: 3,493 votes

Baker High School 2025 WR/CB Roy McBride made an impact on both sides of the football for the Buffaloes in a 20-14 win over Tara High School. On offense, McBridge had 4 catches for 74 yards and one touchdown while having 14 tackles, 3 PBUs, & 3 INTs including the game clincher with 22 seconds left in the game.

6. St. Paul’s 2025 QB Brennan Keim: 175 votes

St. Paul’s 2025 QB Brennan Keim was another quarterback inside our top 10 that had a highly efficient performance with more touchdown passes than incompletions. The Wolves senior quarterback completed 17 of 20 passes for 258 yards and four touchdowns in the team’s 48-14 season opening win over Live Oak.

7. Airline 2026 WR Kenny Darby: 47 votes

The Airline Vikings won a lot of shootouts last season and they start the 2024 season by winning another big offensive shootout with a 52-49 win over Barbe. The Vikings needed every big play from 2026 wide receiver and Mississippi State commit Kenny Darby, who had a ridiculous 17 catches for 315 yards and two touchdowns.

8. Warren Easton 2026 RB Thomas Vaughn: 22 votes

Warren Easton 2026 RB Thomas Vaughn made the most of his opportunities in the Fighting Eagles’ 61-27 win over L.B. Landry as he ran wild for 347 yards and four touchdowns on only 13 carries to lead the team to a convincing Week 1 win.

9. Leesville 2025 RB Xavier Ford: 17 votes

Leesville High School 2025 RB Xavier Ford is one of the top running backs in the state of Louisiana and he started off the 2024 season by having a huge game. Despite it being in a 56-41 loss to Sam Houston, it was a great individual effort by Ford, who ran for 311 yards and six touchdowns on 40 carries.

10. Cibolo Steele (TX) 2025 QB Chad Warner: 5 votes

Cibolo Steele High School (TX) 2025 QB Chad Warner had an efficient and big performance in the team’s 62-34 win over SA Reagan. The Central Texas Player of the Year and UTEP commit completed 16 of 21 passes for 358 yards and five touchdowns to lead the way.

11. Naaman Forest (TX) 2025 QB Deangelo Perales: 5 votes

Naaman Forest High School (TX) 2025 QB Deangelo Perales showed what kind of dual threat quarterback he is by rushing for 226 yards and one touchdown while also throwing for 212 yards and two more touchdowns. The Forest Rangers’ dual threat quarterback put up a nice individual performance of 438 total yards and three total touchdowns in the 55-35 loss to Princeton.
