Logansport High School (Logansport, LA) 2026 QB Keaton Cason is the third different quarterback this year to win the Gridiron Football Player of the Week award.
Cason won the award based on his Week 9 performance in a 42-8 win over LaSalle. In the victory, Cason accomplished something that is rare to do at any level and that is come up with a hat trick.
The Tigers’ versatile quarterback scored six touchdowns but scored in three different ways. He threw for 181 yards and two touchdowns, ran for another 86 yards and three more touchdowns, and also had two catches for 32 yards and one touchdown. Altogether, he threw, ran, and caught touchdowns for the Tigers.
“Honestly, we thought going into it that we kind of built certain packages to where we could move him around and just the circumstances that they are, he’s had to pretty much be in the backfield, you know, playing quarterback, taking the snap, and there’s so many things to a multi level quarterback who can run the zone read, pull it, run QB counter, throw it, but then when you’re able to slip him in as the F and as the wide receiver, you know, it just makes people aware and have to find him on the field. I always felt like that there were plays that we put in the offseason just to specifically highlight his ability and his strength.”

For Cason, this is the first ever game that he has ever achieved a hat trick like that and when he knew he got the opportunity to catch a touchdown, he knew he had to take advantage of it.
“I was like absolutely. Whenever I got down in the position, I released out and whenever I turned my head around, I was like there’s nobody around me and he threw it and I caught it. I seen that dude catching up to me so if you see it in the video, I just dive for the end zone. I know I was already in there, but I just dove anyway.”

Cason’s impressive do it all performance is just a small piece of how well the Tigers have been playing. Including another impressive victory on Thursday night, the Tigers have won five straight to clinch an undefeated district championship and to enter the Division IV Playoffs as potentially a number six seed with a 7-3 overall record.
“I thought it was really good. I think there’s a lot to grow on and build from week to week. We always talk about win each week and be the best we can be each week so don’t get complacent. That was a great performance, but we have a lot to build off of.”

Logansport head coach Kevin Magee is no stranger to guiding the Tigers to the state championship as he has won a state title as both a head coach and as a quarterback himself at Logansport. Coach Magee believes that Cason has the qualities to not only bring the Tigers back to the Dome, but also to find a way to play at the next level because of the versatility that he showed in that Week 9 game.
“I just think that he’s so consistent in his preparation and his day to day work ethic. He shows up every day. It’s a business mentality. Even right now, he goes to work every day. He leaves us and he goes to the fire department locally and he stays overnight. As a high school senior, that speaks volumes for the maturity level. I think college coaches now are picking kids out of the portal. That’s what they are looking for is a mature young man, an adult. I think that Keaton would be a great pickup. I really do. I think he’s multi-talented. I think there’s a lot of things that he could do. You always want that kind of guy that can play a position and play all your special teams. I think that it’s a service that Keaton could provide, can render, and be really good at.”

Right now, Keaton Cason is focused on the next task at hand, which is hopefully going on a five game run for a state championship starting next week. Knowing that he has a whole community behind him that helped him win the player of the week with 17,838 votes only gives him even more confidence.
“It’s always been this way since as far as I can remember from whenever I was a manager to now playing. At Logansport, we always come together. All the towns around us, we all come together and rally around each other. We go against each other on Battle on the Border, but other than that, we all come together and support each other in every way we possibly can, and football is really big at Logansport.”
