Back to back weeks, a running back has won the Gridiron Football Player of the Week Award. This week, that honor goes to Albany High School (Albany, LA) running back Jonah Grob.
The 6’0, 205 pound bruising running back from Albany showed his versatility in Week 7 during a 46-0 win over Springfield as he had 240 rushing yards, 149 receiving yards, and three total touchdowns.
“I feel like versatility is a big thing. It’s a small team so I get to touch the ball a lot. I’m usually the guy they like to give the ball to. I feel like the defense really tries to focus on me a little bit more so that leaves a little bit of room for the pass game.”

It was actually a screen play that really stood out to Grob the most during that game a week ago.
“We ran a little screen that’s where most of my receiving yards came from. We’d run this little screen and it had me wide open right there by the line and then I could just cut up field and make some people miss and score.”

Being compared to the New York Giants’ Cam Skattebo, Grob’s hard running style and physicality is the identity of his overall game.
“I love physicality. If we have like just a helmets practice where we’re not really tackling or hitting or anything, it’s kind of not my favorite day. I still do it, but I love physicality. I love trying to run through you. I like laying the shoulder down and trying to get some yards after being hit.”

Jonah Grob quickly pointed out the other reason that got him to be the Gridiron Football Player of the Week this week and that is because of the fan vote. This week, he has received over 19,000 votes to be able to get the win plus a letterman jacket patch that says “Gridiron Football Player of the Week.”
“The whole community really came together. People texted my parents and stuff telling them that they were voting. I can’t thank them enough. They did just a great job. Thank you to all the fans out there that helped me out.”

Right now, Grob has two college offers from Bethel College and Culver Stockton, but he wants to continue showing college coaches what kind of player he is.
“I’m a hard worker. I’m coachable. I work hard in the classroom and on the field and I feel like I’ve got a lot of ability to be able to play at the next level.”

His goal at the end of the season is to account for 2,000 yards of all-purpose yards, but Grob also believes that this achievement would not be possible without the support of his teammates and the community.
“It’s such a great brotherhood, you know. I couldn’t do it without them guys. Also, I want to thank the Albany community. Holy cow, y’all are behind us 100 percent. You can see that every Thursday or Friday night. It’s great to be a part of this team.”
