Lake Arthur (LA) 2027 LB Wyatt Monceaux is Gridiron Football Player of Week 5!

For the third time this year, a linebacker has won the Gridiron Football Player of the Week award and for the fifth time this year, it is a Louisiana player that wins in Wyatt Monceaux from Lake Arthur High School.

In the Tigers’ 47-8 win over Rosepine two weeks ago, Monceaux was all over the field making plays for the defense stacking the stat sheet with 22 tackles, 2 sacks, 2 TFLs, and an interception to put the cherry on top.

Getting over 20 tackles in a game is something that Monceaux has never accomplished before in a game and it definitely surprised him when he found out that he had that many defensive stops.

“I didn’t think I’d have it, but I’d like to thank my defensive team for helping me out getting that. I wouldn’t be nothing without them.”

Obviously, the play that comes to mind for him is the interception and being able to make a big play like that in the game.

“It was really the highlight of my game. I never really thought I’d be able to intercept the ball like that. We’ve been practicing all week and dropping back. I just drew back and I had seen it coming. When I caught it, I was like, oh no, what now and I just took off running. The defense helped block for me and I was able to make the 33 yard return.”

Monceaux calls it the best game of his prep career to this point, and he feels that he is still only going to learn and get better as a 2027 prospect.

“I would give myself a B because there’s still things I could work on like getting off of blocks better and just moving my feet more because some of the times, I could have made big plays, but I just get blocked and just need to be better at moving and getting off of them better.”

One half of winning Gridiron Football Player of the Week is balling out and putting together a stat line that is good enough to win the award and the other half is to win the fan vote, which is what Monceaux did. It was a close battle with Monceaux winning with a 900 vote margin over Harrisburg (AR) 2027 RB Grayson Harkey. The Lake Arthur community stepped up and voted for Monceaux throughout the entire week winning with 17,170 votes.

“I’d like to thank the Lake Arthur community. They always pull through and come together when supporting the Lake Arthur Tigers and if it was anybody else, they would have their back. They’re always at the games. I love their support and I wouldn’t want to play for no other team.”

Right now, the Tigers are off to a strong start to the season going 5-0 before dropping their first game of the season this past Thursday against Notre Dame. Still, the Tigers are a dangerous team entering district play.

“I think this is our year to really shine and grow as a team and just trust the process. I feel like we’ll be able to make a good run for it, and I think we could go all the way.”

With another year of eligibility, Monceaux is still only getting started in putting his name out there.

“I feel like I’m hardworking and I feel like I’m able to learn more and more each week, which really helps me keep going and keeping my stats going up.”

“I’m easy to communicate with and learn. I can learn quickly and I’m a team player. I don’t take nothing for granted. I feel like I can just help the team out any way.”
