After a tough 27-21 defeat to St. Charles Catholic last week, the Dunham Tigers rebounded in a big way on Thursday night with a 42-7 victory over the Ascension Catholic Bulldogs. On both sides of the football, it was a dominating victory for Neil Weiner’s squad, which moves to 3-1 on the season.
“We love playing St. Charles Catholic. We knew regardless of what was going to happen, they make us better. We were going to be a better football team and it was going to help us down the stretch. Our kids responded quick. It was nice to have a Thursday game. It didn’t give them time to think or feel sorry for themselves.”

The Tigers took out their anger and frustration from last weekend on the Bulldogs the whole game. Offensively, the top quarterback of the 2027 class: Elijah Haven looked like it tonight by accounting for 359 total yards of offense and six total touchdowns.
“He’s got a really good feel about where the ball is going to be going even before the ball is snapped and he is able to adjust on the fly when things happen. Before, it was we are going to throw to this guy and if it’s not there, let’s see what happens. He’s reading things a lot better. I still would like to see him take off and run and use his feet, but he wants to throw the ball and wants to share the ball. He has been very patient in the pocket.”

Haven’s number one target throughout the game was Richard Montgomery Jr., who has been known throughout his career as one of the Tigers’ top defensive backs, but has emerged himself this year as one of the top receiving options on this team. He and Haven connected on four of the six touchdowns with Montgomery having four touchdown grabs and over 200 yards of all-purpose yards. South Alabama WR Jarvis Washington and Khris Thomas were the other two receivers to catch touchdowns throughout the night.
“Richard’s been a defensive specialist for the last two years as a starter. This summer and spring, he has committed to get his hands on the ball and he put in the work and earned it. You can see the work he has done tonight and all season.”

“I felt like on the first score, I felt like it was going to be a good night. I went up and got it and felt pretty good about it. I let the momentum carry throughout the game.”

Dunham’s defense was just as impressive as early in the game, there were two goal line stands and an interception by Joshua Lazard in the first half to stop two promising drives from Ascension Catholic when the Tigers had a 14-0 lead. Those three stops by the Tigers’ defense set the tone for a pull away victory as it took the Bulldogs late in the game to score their only touchdown of the night on a Trevin Simon touchdown run.
“That was awesome. Our two inside linebackers were not playing so it was the next guy up. Elliott Trahan, Reed Williams, and Charlie Myers were really stomping them up front. It was really special and a great way to end the half. The defense was phenomenal all night. Three red zone stops in the first half was an incredible effort.”

Putting it all together offensively and defensively was the icing on the cake for what was a milestone 100th victory for Neil Weiner at the Dunham School. Coach Weiner will be searching win #101 next week against Baker to try and improve to 4-1 while Taylor James and the Ascension Catholic Bulldogs fall to 2-2 with Episcopal coming up next Friday.
