Today, LSU announced their three representatives for SEC Media Days on Monday, July 14th in Atlanta, Georgia. The three that will be joining LSU head coach Brian Kelly are Garrett Nussmeier, Chris Hilton Jr., and Whit Weeks.
Nussmeier is the returning leading passer from last season after throwing for 4,052 yards and 29 touchdowns. As a two time Bowl Game MVP, Nussmeier already ranks up there in the LSU record books by being among LSU’s Top 10 in several career passing categories – No. 5 in TD passes (40), No. 7 in attempts (744) and completions (466) and No. 9 in yards (5,772). Like other quarterbacks Joe Burrow and Jayden Daniels before him, Nussmeier expects a major jump in leading the Tigers as a second year starter after leading the team to a 9-4 record last season.
Chris Hilton Jr. is poised to have a breakout year after showing some flashes throughout his college career. Plagued with injuries, Hilton has shown the ability to be a game changer for the Tigers when he is healthy. The former Zachary High School star has 31 career catches for 658 yards and six touchdowns. Out of his 31 career catches, 7 have gone for 40+ yard catches with 5 of them going for touchdowns.
Finally, Whit Weeks is the lone representative on the defensive side of the football for Media Day. Weeks is a good choice to have as one of the top linebackers in all of college football. Last season was a breakout campaign for Weeks, who finished with 1st Team All-SEC honors with 125 stops and two SEC Defensive Player of the Week awards (Ole Miss and Oklahoma). Entering his third season with the Tigers, he has 174 career tackles, 13.5 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks. He will also be a part of history this season as he joins his brothers West and Zach as the first brother trio in school history to be a part of the same team.
LSU will open up SEC Media Days on Monday, July 14th with coverage being on the SEC Network.
