Wildcats Thursday Camp Update

Thursday at the Louisiana College football camp saw the team running their second “2-a-day” practices at Wildcat Field. After delays in the afternoon practices on Wednesday and Monday, the weather once again played a role in today’s plans forcing the team indoors for their second practice of the day.

Coach Dennis Dunn said, “We had a really good morning, unfortunately the rain shortened our afternoon practice but we were able to move inside and get some drills done that went along way in helping us determine what guys we think are going to be able to fill in some depth for us this year. We’re looking for good session in morning [Friday], and just trusting the Lord that we’re getting done what we need to get done.”

As the end of camp draws closer and closer for the players the focus of each day has shifted from learning the play book to learning how to react to various situations on the field.

Dunn said, “We are working a lot on game scenario segments within practice by creating sudden changes that happen in game and judging how the guys react or don’t react to those changes.  Doing a lot of red zone and goal line work as well as when we’re backed up against our own goal line.”

Offensive coordinator Ben McLaughlin said specifically of his side of the ball, “At this point we are really just focusing on game situations.  What we want to do on a third and long, or how we can establish the pace at which we want to operate while we have the ball that best keeps the defense guessing.  We’re not learning new plays at this point, just refining what we have in place for different series and situations.”

The Wildcats will return to the field on Friday morning for another early practice beginning at 5:10 am, before hitting the weight room the rest of the day.  The final two practices of camp will both come on Saturday with the team’s final “2-a-day” starting at 8:10 and concluding with an afternoon session at 3 pm.  As always all practices are free and open to the public if they would like to get an early look at the 2016 edition of the LC Wildcats.

Season tickets are still available for purchase for the six Louisiana College home football games this season in the reserved chair back section on the 50-yard line.  Tickets are sold in pairs of two, which also include a parking pass, for $150.  To order your seats for the 2016 season call Brad Welborn at 318-487-7987.
