Wickstrom to Receive Student-Nominated Award

MONROE, La. – ULM Director of Athletics Dr. Brian Wickstrom has been named the recipient of the Excellence in Service to Students Award, announced by Roslynn B. Pogue, Director in the Office of Career Connections for the University of Louisiana Monroe announced. Wickstrom will receive the award at a ceremony on Thursday, December 1.

 

The Excellence in Service to Students Award is given to a non-faculty member on the ULM campus that exemplifies leadership and mentorship and has demonstrated commitment to bettering the lives of students. The award is presented by the ULM Chapter of the National Society of Leadership and Success organization, Sigma Alpha PI, during their Induction Ceremony.

 

“As both a student and student-athlete at Kansas State, I had great mentors that were non-faculty members,” Wickstrom stated. “Ever since I’ve been in college athletics, I have always tried to present a great student and student-athlete experience. I am honored receive this award for doing what I love to do.”

 

Wickstrom was nominated by a member(s) of the organization as someone who mentors or teaches with heart and passion and has motivated them in their pursuit of education.

“I am very excited for Brian,” Pogue said. “He has achieved great strides for our university athletics and our members wanted to recognize his accomplishments and thank him for a job well done.

 

“Dr. Wickstrom is an exceptional man, and I have the utmost admiration and respect for him. When it comes to sports and the details of them, he makes sure that the student body is notified, and he requires that we have school spirit to the fullest extent,” Nicole C. Davis, Student President of the National Society of Leadership and Success added. “I follow Dr. Wickstrom on Twitter, and he’s so kindhearted that he finds crafty ways for people to win tickets to various sporting events. He is highly deserving of this award, and I hope that he continues to serve as the greatest collegiate athletic director in Northeast Louisiana.”

 

Wickstrom is currently in his fourth year as ULM’s Director of Athletics. He was a track and field student-athlete at Kansas State University, earning his undergraduate degree in business administration/finance in 1991. He added an MBA masters of business administration/management from K-State in 1992. Wickstrom completed his master’s in sports administration from Ohio University in 1999 and his doctorate in educational leadership from Eastern Michigan University in 2006.
