TULSA, OK. – The University of Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks came up short in their comeback attempt against the Tulsa Golden Hurricanes, losing by the score 34-24. The Warhawks are now 1-4 on the year.

The Warhawks fell behind the Hurricanes 10-0 early, but answered in the second quarter when Garrett Smith was able to reach the endzone on a three-yard run. The Hurricanes were able to score soon after and the Warhawks went into halftime down 20-7.

Like the week before, ULM came out of the half fired up and started their comeback attempt. ULM’S Crag Ford connected on a 22-yard field goal early in the third quarter. Soon after the field goal, Ajalen Holley hauled in a 26-yard touchdown pass from Smith making the score 20-17. After a defensive stop, DeVontae McNeal raced 43 yards for another Warhawk touchdown giving ULM their first lead of the game. Unfortunately, Tulsa was able to answer and ended up winning the game 34-24.

Smith finished 25/48 for 231 yards with a touchdown pass and another on the ground to lead ULM. Kaylon Watson rushed for 73 yards on 12 carries. McNeal added 63 yards on the ground with a touchdown. Holley once again led the Warhawk receiving corp with 11 receptions for 113 yards and a touchdown. Jared Mapps had 4 catches for 47 yards and Harley Scioneaux had 26 yards receiving.

The Warhawks will come home to Monroe to face Appalachian State on October 17th for a 6:00 p.m. game that will air on ESPN3.
